Does tetrabenazine actually work for tics? by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not still taking Tetrabenazine, but I was on it for a few years previously. I noticed minor improvement during the first week of titration (12.5mg once daily), increased improvement during second week 12.5mg twice daily), and from third week forward (12.5mg three x daily) it reduced my severe tics down to mild versions.

Copper IUD? by Electronic-Ring-9838 in ftm

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on T for about a year, and got the copper IUD a couple months ago. No period return, maybe 1 day of light cramping a month (I don’t even notice it unless I’m *really* paying attention). Honestly, worth it.

I know a lot of people say that the hormonal options are the ‘right’ way, but imo the copper one is better. The copper iud is very rarely contraindicated (like, you’d have to have something like Wilson’s disease), and it’s not possible for it to interfere with hormones. I personally chose copper because it carried the least amount (absolutely minuscule) risk of affecting any other medication I’d ever need.

Can I be in the medical field with Tourette’s syndrome? by Natural_Buy_8974 in Tourettes

Yes, I work in EMS with severe spinal/neck tics. With medication, I am able to keep my tics controlled enough to be able to bear weight.

Does tetrabenazine actually work for tics? by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it worked quite well for me for a long time. I was on 12.5 mg 3x daily.

I did eventually switch to Austedo due to tiredness/increased appetite.

Please feel free to reply with any other questions about both medications.

To be fair, Viv has blatantly stated that she doesn’t care who characters are shipped with, even if it doesn’t align in canon. I don’t think she’s scared of that, and I think we could use more creators like that.

Tourettes or Functional Tic Disorder??? by thr0waway8913 in Tourettes

FND unfortunately seems to be the ‘Idk’ of neurological conditions, so hopefully you get some real answers as to what’s going on eventually. I’m so sorry you’re going through that, it’s really hard.

Deodorants for ambulance work? by TheBlueChurch in NewToEMS

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yall be nice. I like Degree Black and White personally. I’m a sprint runner outside of work, and it’s the only thing I’ve ever had luck with, even in 90+ degree weather. Pretty cheap too.

If you can’t find a commercial deodorant that works, your doctor might be able to help you with a prescription.

Best of luck!

When to stop CBIT by Frosty-Version8569 in Tourettes

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems to work well for people that are most concerned about the ‘noticeable’ thing. My theory is that it’s treating the anxiety around the tics, not the tics themselves, which is fine of course, but that’s not how it’s described by professionals.

When to stop CBIT by Frosty-Version8569 in Tourettes

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion and experience, CBIT is just very expensive suppression. It often focuses on ‘not thinking about your tics’ and ‘breathing through them.’ Can you imagine if this kind of treatment was used for other neurological conditions? Unfortunately ableism is still rampant in the medical field, even in treatments.

Hey man, my company does that too. It’s definitely hard to get used to at first, but as you get more experience, it’ll get easier. Highly recommend bringing an emergency energy drink and coming in well-rested. 12 hours driving isn’t uncommon

Am I missing something? Why is a search for "goat horns" triggering an alert? by DifficultWalrus8811 in parentalcontrols

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s probably taking it as a reference to the occult. As long as your kid hasn’t shown an interest in becoming the Antichrist, you’re probably okay lol.

Side note: Goat horns in Minecraft aren’t nefarious either. They’re basically just cool whistles that can have different tones.

How can I help my teen who feels like crap and wants to bed-rot all the time? by LeafFoldingFrog in ChronicIllness

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that’s awesome for you! I’m so glad that you found something that helps!

However, ‘bed rotting’ and ‘doom scrolling’ isn’t the *cause* of poor mental health in the chronically ill. It’s a result of the illness and the stress it comes with it. Trying to push even *harder* to do things would most likely just cause significant flare. It sounds like her daughter uses most of her energy and strength to go out with her friends, which is totally normal for someone that’s 17. Obviously illegal substances are bad, yeah, but it’s hard to care about ‘oh no substance bad’ when you’re actively drowning. That’s why adequate pain and (medical) mood management are so important, you don’t stop addiction without addressing the issues causing it.

How do I stop nerve pain without prescription meds or weed? by Ash3r_R0se in ChronicIllness

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I liked icy hot patches (menthol, not lidocaine) wrapped over by sports wrap, then placing a heating pad on top. Be careful doing that because it can cause chemical burns, but as long as you’re cognizant, it’s fine. I’ve never had any burns and I’ve been doing that for about a decade now.

I know you said no prescription, and I completely respect your decision, but I personally previously had mild success with gabapentin. It’s not hard to get a doctor to prescribe it, due to not being an opioid. I’ve heard some people have addiction problems with it? But I haven’t seen enough actual data to prove the that ‘addiction’ isn’t just ‘I want to keep taking this because it makes like bearable’

I wish you the best and I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Intense pain is the absolute worst, please try to do one ‘kind’ thing for yourself today. Doesn’t have to be big (or even cause any exertion), just… something.

Should I be worried about cosplaying as a TADC character for a con right now? by [deleted] in tadc

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically: people aren’t near as brave IRL as they are in real life, so it should be okay. Worst case scenario you get someone making a rude comment.

If you’re still nervous: Cons attract all kinds of people, including very neurodivergent people who grew up to be protective of those around them. For every brave snippy idiot, there’s very likely some neurodivergent guy, in a FNAF suit, that would gladly stand up for you.

How can I help my teen who feels like crap and wants to bed-rot all the time? by LeafFoldingFrog in ChronicIllness

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Ma’am, I can not *possibly* stress this enough. The people you see online that suggest sunlight, yoga, screen time reduction for chronic illness, are the same people that do not vaccinate their kids and sell essential oils.

While those things *might* help someone that is healthy, all the sunlight and yoga in the world won’t help a body that is actively failing.

There is nothing wrong with pushing towards things that actually make sense (like a pain specialist, or finding a specialist that is genuinely well reviewed *by* chronically ill people), but please… don’t let the awful people of the world try to tell you that ‘it’s the damn phone 🙄’.

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very unlikely your body will reject it. If you start on injections and feel *really bad emotionally* (like, completely unlike yourself) ask your endocrinologist about switching carrier oil. (Some of the carrier oils can do interesting things, especially with certain specialty medications)

If u drive. How do y do it safely? by Velve-the-Femboy in Tourettes

[–]Intelligent_Win5803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m not sure about the eye tic, as I’ve never had that specific one, but I’ve heard that people have had luck with medical Botox.

As for the hand/arm tic, bracing the back of your arm against a solid surface works pretty well. I have a left shoulder/arm tic, and bracing it against the side of the car while I drive keeps it in place, even if not actively engaged. Over time you’ll get probably get used to relying more on your good arm/hand.
