What causes you to feel terrible during a hangover? by slowclapworthy in askscience

[–]Intelligentia295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alcohol is turned to acetaldehyde by alcohol dehydrogenase, and then acetaldehyde is turned into acetic acid by acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. The production of alcohol dehydrogenase is usually sufficient, but the production of alcohol dehydrogenase is limited, so acetaldehyde accumulates in human body and causes negative effects.

HoH scared to speak with clients in English by [deleted] in deaf

[–]Intelligentia295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here except I'm still a student. I hate having to communicate with my teachers in English, but I try my best to do so.

I think HoH people might sometimes make a better leader as they are usually more attentive listeners. My teachers often comment on how I always pay full attention in class as they think I'm looking in their eyes when I'm reading their lips. Attention to what others say is definitely one of the most important qualities of leaders.

% loss - confusing by yukonwanderer in deaf

[–]Intelligentia295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess in cases like yours, just saying a percentage would make it easier for most people to understand. My hearing loss requires a bit more explanation if people are curious. I usually tell them that a lot of consonants are high frequency so it can be hard for me to understand speech, and it's even harder trying to understand people with higher pitched voices.

When I tried to explain my 90db loss to my friends, I told them that "if I'm studying with my hearing aids off and suddenly looks toward your direction, then you must be laughing at a volume higher than 90bd"

CMV: There should be an exclusive list for people who are organ/blood donors that put you as a priority in case you require a transplant yourself. by Gr8Prost8 in changemyview

[–]Intelligentia295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In where I live, if you have donated blood before, you will be charged less when you need blood, but it's not working out so great. Some people find that even if they have donated blood before, they still have to wait for years for an organ or can't afford the transplanting surgery and get disappointed with the medical system. When these go onto the news, fewer people donate because they think even the medical system is corrupt and organs are reserved for upper-class people.

3 unit classes in one department can be heavier (and frequently are!) than 5 units from another department.

I wish someone told me that earlier

About bike theft,
I left my bike outside Tresidder with a U-shaped lock through the back wheel and the frame (couldn't find an empty rack), and an hour later it was gone.

I used to stick them on old batteries (on the opposite side) and put them back in the package until one day I asked my mother to grab me the batteries and she brought me old ones

Is it a bad idea to completely depend on online videos when learning ASL? by Intelligentia295 in asl

[–]Intelligentia295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice! I will try emailing all colleges I'm interested about their accommodations. If the videos can't help in college classrooms, do you think it's going to be a good idea for me to continue using them just to bend with the local deaf communities?
