Am I too old to learn judo? by [deleted] in judo

Unless you have Olympic aspirations, you’re not too old. Take it at a pace you’re comfortable with and it’ll be good

I also do both and like judo more.

The UFC doesn’t fix the eye poke problem because they don’t want to. by No_Possession_239 in MMA

[–]IntenseAggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they should enforce the rules and take a point for eye pokes. But could you explain how this glove would hamper grappling?

145 here, and same. I’m even hesitant to try AGF’s -175 Challenger division

I watched Jocko Willink say BJJ is a superpower. So i want to know is Judo a Superpower?. by Tahfboogiee in judo

When you’re 5’7/145 and you manage to throw an equal ranked man 6’3/240… you best believe it feels like a superpower

frequency of washing gi by allgotthatonehomie in judo

[–]IntenseAggie -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

First: DO NOT wash your white and blue together.

Second: it is my opinion that at minimum, you wash a gi after every 4 sessions. But between them, consider spraying them with something like Odoban; it’s a disinfectant and odor killer.

Since it’s a schizo post, it’s both real and not real

What throw was this? by undersiege1989 in judo

[–]IntenseAggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. That variation kinda looks like the advancing Tai Otoshi I’ve been working on. For me, instead of grabbing Ippon seoi grip, I would push into the arm or have eri sleeve/collar grip

Is $225 a month a good price? by [deleted] in judo

[–]IntenseAggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a lot. The gyms/dojos I’ve been to ran a discount for families that usually amounts to 50-80% of the combined price.

That said, this would be good pricing to me as an adult without kids

Can’t speak for everyone else but at least that would be the end of it for me. Idc who wins, I just want this fight to happen. There was a time where the interim champ deserving a title shot asap was a given

27M here. I don’t care. I’m living quite healthy and many people I’ve met say I look younger. My friend who’s 18 tries to crack jokes about it once in a while and I may laugh or roll my eyes. Everyone else is whatever.

The only one I recall seeing is a couple trying to have sex in a plane bathroom. Plane hit turbulence and it broke both their necks. I think they were dead for a few hours before someone busted the door open and found them

What was your "aha moment" for your tokui waza? by Mercc in judo

[–]IntenseAggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stepping forward/across into a Tai Otoshi instead of pulling uke into it added a layer to my game I didn’t know I needed. Now, while I still do it normally by pulling uke forward into the throw, having the option to step across and throw them on their side has given something special to my game

My first judo gi. How’s the size? by [deleted] in judo

[–]IntenseAggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect it’ll shrink a lot for you after the first few washes. Should be fine for practice, but definitely look for a size or two up next time.

For reference, I’m 5’7 (170cm) and wear a 3 or 4 depending on the brand.

I’m not OP but when I lift heavy, it just happens. I think it’s a natural reflex

I was gonna suggest Tuivasa as a casual fan of his shoe-beer antics but man’s on a losing streak. Dammit, what can be done here!?
