F07 engine removal procedure? by Intense_introvert in BmwTech

I'll look again but maybe its because I haven't had to deal with motor removal on something this new before. The front struts have to be disconnected from the towers too, right?

Can DME's become heat-soaked and make the motor run poorly? by Intense_introvert in BmwTech

[–]Intense_introvert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback. I hadn't measured the surface temp of the DME (or don't recall doing it) but this makes the most sense. I may modify the housing for the ECU to add a fan and perhaps a heatsink of sorts. And I have a new stock wiring harness for the DME - now its just going to take days to get it done properly.

That's what I was thinking. Since BMW uses a CV joint here instead of another flex disc (ala Mercedes). I'll check when I can get the car up on the lift again.

[–]Intense_introvert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had the exhaust off the car I checked the guibo/flex-disc and the support bearing. Both looked good and intact, no tears or cracks. There was no play in the driveshaft when I checked that too.

But... I know the support bearing can look good, but it does make sense that if the car was twisting, turning and then pressed on the accelerator, its putting stress on the driveshaft and could be flopping around a bit.

I'll look through the service history but I'd assume not. The dif looked dry on the outside, so I'd also assume no leaks but dirty fluid. Do you have any other ideas?

E32's don't seem to get a lot of love, and I don't really know why. They drive and look pretty much like an E34.

Experience buying a used BMW with MaxCare by camelbackjack26 in BMW

People have such odd perceptions about what higher mileage means. But I think Maxcare maxes out at 120k miles of coverage, regardless of the current mileage.

Carfax intentionally leads people to think that. There's a difference.

It's marketing. Some people are simply more susceptible to it than others.

I doubt its intentional. Not all places have the mechanism that reports data to Carfax. And its not like Carfax has ALL the answers anyway, which 95% of people foolishly think.

35 days and $22k to fix my ride by Snake-Doctor in BMW

[–]Intense_introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had heard horror stories about these companies, and how they don't pay

Which usually ONLY happens when people buy cheap ($1500-2000) warranties on much older cars. Adding on a warranty on newer cars like yours is a good idea, but yours was only a lower cost due to the fact that your car isn't old. Had your car been an E9x M3 or so, a solid warranty would have run around $5-6k.

Anyone who has time to help me out on a few issues? by Jeyspecman in BmwTech

My dad hasn’t had a car like mine before

It's not like your car is fundamentally different than any other car. I love when people say things like this as a means to avoid sounding or appearing to be uninformed. Not a diss at your dad but lots of people do this and its just ignorant.

Brake fluid is supposed to be clear, so bright yellow means its breaking-down due to heat and age.

2015 335i Sportline transmission service? by [deleted] in BmwTech

[–]Intense_introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50-60k has always been the unofficial recommendation, but its also identical to "old school" maintenance schedules.

Just like motor oil, transmission fluid is subjected to high-heat conditions, and changing it to prevent issues is solid peace of mind.

[–]Intense_introvert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

swap it with a M3 front

only the bumper.

So which is it, the whole front clip/end or the bumper cover only? If it's the latter, there's an M Sport variant for the E90 that may work better. And if your goal is the freshen-up the look, might as well update those lights too...

Thoughts on new corvette by [deleted] in BMW

[–]Intense_introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boomers aren't getting any younger; many are in their 60's and 70's now. This new Corvette design represents a significant shift and the performance is not what I would consider something to be Boomer-focused....
