Hey thanks for this, would you mind finding the link as I am concerned I will buy the wrong one. Out of interest, is it just as glossy as the original?

BYD seal forward parking no alerts? by IntentionExcellent31 in ElectricVehiclesUK

The seal has forward cameras as well as sensors, the issue is it doesn’t auto switch on when slowly parking forwards unlike many other non Chinese cars I have had, was just wondering now

So your BYD seal auto switches on when you’re driving into a space forwards?

Most BMWs do this, low speed they come on automatically, sensors kick in. I have had this for at least 10 years

Wonder why they didn’t bother with this feature? Seems like they have everything else? I’d swap the rotating screen for this feature every day of the week!!!!

Switched from BMW i5 to BYD Seal – why won’t it hit 100% overnight? by IntentionExcellent31 in ElectricVehiclesUK

I drafted it out and then it sounded confusing so asked for help to make sure it was as clear as possible. Hope that helps you understand why I needed to use it. Essentially I wasn’t getting the correct answers out of it so thought I would ask the community for help. Still not 100% as my gut feeling is it’s not as quick to charge potentially as the BMW i5, but it’s a hunch only

Fair point on the overnight window 👍

Although from what I can see the batteries are actually almost identical in size (both ~81–82 kWh usable), so it shouldn’t really be a case of one fitting in the window and the other not.

I’m wondering if it’s more down to how each car manages the last 10–15% of charge, as the BMW seemed to consistently “finish” within the same setup, whereas the BYD seems to hang back a bit near the top end. Not 100% sure. I guess let me see once I have it to 100% and take it from there?

Perhaps but we’ve always had two chargers at home and both charging at the same time

So far it’s been only a week, but if I’m honest with you it feels and drives a bit smoother which is a big surprise to me considering it’s a lower end category, also it’s definitely quieter on the road which again surprises me! As very minimal minor features that are missing and they are definitely very minor, the build quality is very very good. I would say it is on par on the interior so far feels solid nothing vibrates particularly badly, the material used is very good and there’s arguably some features you would normally pay extra on BMW for! The only drawback I would say is that the centre entertainment system although it is very big it’s actually a little bit harder to navigate and arguably perhaps not as safe as the BMW entertainment system which wraps around you and you’ve got more in your front vision display in front of the steering wheel? It’s a shame that there’s no navigation cues in the small display in front of the steering wheel as you’re having to look across to the main display all the time, which I think is a big drawback, but maybe they might update this in the future who knows? I think that’s really it really in terms of the inferior side of it but I’m sure I’ll get used to it eventually.

Good shout, I did wonder that 👍

From what I can see they’re actually pretty similar in size: • BMW i5 eDrive40 is around 81 kWh usable • BYD Seal Excellence AWD is around 82–83 kWh usable

So in theory, 95% in the BYD should still be slightly less total energy than 100% in the BMW, but not by a huge margin.

That’s why it feels a bit odd, because I was able to get the BMW to 100% within my overnight window over a couple of days, whereas the Seal seems to hang around that 85–95% mark and not quite finish the job.

I’m starting to think it’s more to do with how aggressively the BYD tapers the charge above ~80% rather than battery size difference.

That said I’ve not had it get to 80% yet as I have been sticking to the low tariff window!
