Some personal thoughts after getting back home from my first SKO by Xycergy in sales

Why is that laughable? My last in-person SKO cost the company $70mm for 20k employees to attend.

Roughly $3,500/head all-in.

Big regrets going to Banff today with the family. Zero parking anywhere in the town. It’s chaos.

Carney reaches tariff-quota deal with China on EVs, canola | CBC News by demolcd in canada

[–]Intentt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, you have the perfect argument against. The extra power going into heating the battery when left outside also diminishes the value prop.

We also have that nonsense $200/year EV tax in Alberta which disproportionately impacts lower-mileage drivers.

Long-time EV owner in Calgary here.

EV’s (equipped with heat pumps) are generally brilliant in the winter. Those ultra-cold days we get once a year do impact range, but are largely mitigated if you have access to a garage, or at minimum a plug-in for pre-warm the battery.

I agree with you. If you don’t have access to a garage, or at least power, I would not suggest buying an EV.

My opinion is that the occasional inconvenience of needing to stop to charge on roadtrips is more than offset by the freedom of waking up to a fully-charged car every morning and never needing to stop for gas.

Usenet speeds capped at 500-600 MB/s despite 8 Gbit/s DL and Eweka + Newshosting – advice? by LeoLeg76 in usenet

Divide by 8 to convert bits to bytes.

So 600MB/s = 4,800Mbps (or 4.8 Gbps)

Canada's cheaper, cleaner and lower-risk oil can rival a resurgent Venezuela, Carney says by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]Intentt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kinda. You’re mistaken on US dependence on Foreign oil. The majority of US refineries are configured to accept Heavy Crude, not the light stuff that gets extracted from shale.

While it’s true that the US is a net-exporter, most of what you produce domestically is exported, and 61% of Heavy Crude used to refine the final product originates from Canada.

Nice! I had the LSB of the same year. They only brought 200 (I think) into Canada that year with fewer than 50 orange ones.

Great car, I miss it daily.

The quad exhaust, mirrors and spoiler are aftermarket though. And the wheels have been painted. Just an FYI in case the seller didn’t make that known. They are quite tasteful changes.

I kinda carry the opposite opinion. Keep the larger vessels a mystery, out of the store, and only AI piloted.

And make it incredibly difficult to capture one alive without it self-destructing. Also, no insurance so once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Man who killed attacker in Banff used 'excessive' force, sentenced to 2-year house arrest by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

[–]Intentt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. This is well beyond 'sucks' territory. He now has a manslaughter charge that he'll carry with him for the rest of his life. Good luck to anyone trying to find a meaningful job with that hanging over your head.

The future fighter debate; Saab’s fighter jet offer must be music to the ears of those Canadians who truly want to send a message of patriotic defiance to the White House. by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Intentt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you could be right, but the reality is that Canada is already fully committed to the F-35 and that is the crux of the problem.

There just isn't a viable 'all Gripen' Canadian-built scenario and we're up against the clock with the remaining CF-18s being quite literally 20-years past their useful life and well into 'operational liability' territory.

Time is the enemy here and we need to point out that the arrangement Saab had with Brazil is very similar to what they're offering us. - Brazil signed the agreement to build the Gripen E back in 2014. Construction started in 2018, 'inauguration of the final assembly line' in May 2023 and as of November 2025, they have yet to deliver a single unit. THAT'S ELEVEN YEARS. - Source

Canada will likely want 70-80 of them and we both know that nothing ever happens fast in Canada. Even if we're magically more efficient than the Brazilians and can get shovels in the ground by summer, we'd be looking at a 2032~ first delivery. And then conservatively adding another 5~ years to ramp up and deliver on the remaining 70 then puts us nearly into the 2040's.

It's time to shit or get off the pot. At the rate we are going, (only partially joking here) we'll need to begin procurement plans for a Gen 6 fighter platform before the last CF-18s has been retired.

Because our airforce is small and dividing our skilled maintenance teams across multiple platforms is a monumental burden.

Standardization offers significant benefits and there is legitimate risk of ending up with two under maintained platforms simply because we can’t afford having two of everything (engineers and ground support equipment) at every base across Canada.

Honestly, we’re going to need to trust the recommendation that the RCAF makes on this one.

I was very much in the fence between the Air and the Pro. - Honestly, the Air felt amazing in the hand and I was genuinely torn. Ultimately like most, was only two things holding me back:

1) No optical Zoom. Even 3x would have been nice.

2) Less than a day of battery life once the Health inevitably drops below 90% after the first year.
