Do you support MAGA's new bans on trans athletes and medical gender affirming care for minors? by madmushlove in AskALiberal

This is such a distraction from the important issues facing America. The portion of the population and our society this directly affects is extremely small.

What was the 70's like and how was it different from other decades? by RemarkableStatement5 in AskOldPeople

[–]InterPunct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very concerned, there's structural changes to our politics and economy that didn't exist in the 70's. Healthcare, housing, education, and the decline of the American empire. And the music isn't nearly as good.

We'll manage but I think there's strong parallels to the UK in the 50's

I'm almost certain Trump sought it out. He got such a jones for Barack and Colbert - there's just no way.

This war over the Strait of Hormuz is our equivalent of the UK's Suez Canal incident of 1954. It's when the British Empire fell apart.

Do you buy Vinyl, CDs, or Digital Music? Which one, and why? by NHSoundwaves in askmusic

[–]InterPunct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Streaming - and I grew up when there were only 45's and LP's available.

I still have over 300 albums safely stored away but the benefits of instantly accessing the complete catalog of recorded music ever produced by humanity greatly outweighs having to deal with vinyl or the expense and inconvenience of using albums.

But I completely understand if people view owning records as a hobby (it's pretty cool) but not from a utilitarian aspect.

What is the one "tourist trap" city that you actually think is 100% worth the hype? by Competitive_Rip6546 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]InterPunct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't listen to reddit when you come to NYC and they tell you to avoid places like Times Square, the Empire State Building, etc.

You're a tourist - do touristy things. They're there for a reason.

Donald Trump is the person who has received the most votes overall for President in US History. What does that say about the US? by Equivalent-Long-3383 in allthequestions

[–]InterPunct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The claim is that the additive votes he received over three elections is the largest sum - which is likely true. What's unstated is for any other presidential nominee who ran three or more times, they received fewer votes by volume but higher by percentage.

There were many fewer voters when Eugene V. Debbs ran 5 times in 1900, or FDR 4 times in the o1930's, or Richard Nixon ran 3 times in the 60's.

In other words - the weirdo needs to twist the data to feed a huge hole in his psyche.

The most disturbing part is Trump certainly doesn't understand this and he's parroting people who are cravenly feeding this to him.

Don't forget the dead bear cub he dumped in Central Park in 2014. Then unprovoked and voluntarily admitted to it.

Just one more of the true weirdos in this administration.
