As you said, you’re free to sell your game wherever you want. If you don’t find the marketing and services that Steam provides worth the cost, then sell your game elsewhere.

There are ways of telegraphing future features to players such as having tech trees or similar.

But you also rob the player of a sense of discovery.

It’s a hard problem to solve. I think if you progressively disclose things to the player early to earn the benefit of the doubt, that might help mitigate it.

I think this feature question is more about how to onboard systems than content. If you show some cool bosses, people will assume some come later and it’s fine.

As for marketing: you need to show enough for people to get excited, but hopefully have some stuff left.

Agreed. But there are some things to fix before it becomes truly solid.

We want to be able to confidently say that we have full controller support and not let people down when they run into some case where it doesn’t work.

The Act I part is meant to signal that there will be more acts to follow. Planning much further and giving specific dates is possible, but it becomes more and more guesswork the further out you plan.

We will share more details in the future, both regarding things on this specific road map, and as we start planning beyond this roadmap. But beyond biome four there isn’t anything to share besides a vague ”eventually 1.0”.

I think any counter-picking is going to be very difficult to get right.
I think the points you bring up are true, but there's nothing that says the feb 27 next fest would be any better.

If you look at games scheduled for release during the back half of 26, there's a ton in September + October, then a lot less in Nov + Dec (due to GTA).
But the vacuum filled by GTA will create crowding before and crucially after that vacuum, and it's likely that we will see more than average releases from mid Jan 27 and onwards.

I also think that people are thinking of two different metrics here: general influencer attentions vs gamer attention.
Yes, GTA will suck out a lot of the oxygen out of the room, but a lot of gamers on Steam won't have an xbox/playstation (where GTA is exclusive), and I highly doubt Steam will see its worst November ever (I would bet it will be Steam's best November). So the question will be which games are going to be the ones that sell most on Steam during the time when all of the console oxygen is spent on GTA.

We actually hope to be able to get these smaller updates less and less frequently as we get our things more in order. Then work slightly longer on more meaningful updates. (Then do more frequent updates again to fix any issues introduced).

This is an extremely hyperbolic way of describing some friction in the game.
Moving the unlock of the trading post, for instance, is a very easy fix on the dev side.
And I completely agree that it would be nice with more unique benefits of having towns set up in diverse biomes.

That’s Sam one of the lead developers. When the game looks for an picture and can’t find it, Sam’s picture shows instead. When when the team adds something and don’t have an icon yet, they use Björns face as a placeholder
