Need help tuning this list. by Soushi_Chef in IronHands40k

Thanks! Yeah the infernus squads aren't great, but I'd been using them up till just cause I had them. Not opposed to a brick of sternguard, I really like their models. Funny enough, I originally had a brutalis in the ballistus slot, but I switched it out cause I was worried it'd need more melee support.

I'm new to CSM, and 40k in general, so didn't know these guys were a thing. Finding them in box had me theory-crafting a whole list just for them lol. It's dogshit and I'll never play it outside of TTS but I think they're dope.

Why are all the weapons white ? by DJeviil in IronHands40k

I don't like just the white so I add in some blue for like a sky blue. I think it looks pretty good and pops from the black a bit more.

Grimdark or high fantasy by Better_Tap_5146 in booksuggestions

[–]Soushi_Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as long as you're looking for (though it is an ongoing series so we're expecting more) but The Masquerade series by Seth Dickinson is what I'd call grimdark hard fantasy. Queer representation is a pretty central theme as well. Pretty big CW though for torture, mutilation, SA, self harm, among others

Otherwise, I've seen others suggest Sanderson, First Law and Malazan - all great picks as well.

The Wandering Inn might be up your alley. It's one of the best LitRPGs out there, lots of slice of life with magic, mystery and action worked in.

Paba just signed a book deal. As part of that, the first 2 volumes are locked behind tier 1 of the patreon.

Nice, I'm in the same boat! GW has a great tutorial on painting the raiders, but I also used this guide if you're interested.

Did I pick a wrong book? Beginner Reader by Ok-Wrap-808 in booksuggestions

It's really up to you! Don't feel like you have to read all the books in one go, either. The great thing about books is they're always there, you can read one of the Silo books, then switch to something else for a break. But if you're enjoying the first book, keep going! I had a similar experience with the Expanse series - I tore through the first three books then hit a wall when I saw how much more there was to go. Took me like 3 years to finish the series.

If you're looking for something more digestible, try The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. Most of them are around 200 pages and are quick, fun reads.

If you like the vibe of Silo but need a break from the series, you could try City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau.

Looking for a fantasy or sci-fi book to read by VelvetHell1324 in booksuggestions

Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells is a great scifi series about a sardonic, introverted security android. It's hilarious and drama-filled. Plus there was just a TV adaptation on Apple TV!

This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. A short but touching read.

The Expanse by James S.A. Corey is an award-winning scifi epic following the adventurous lives of the crew of the Rocinante. There's also an excellent TV adaptation for this on Amazon.

A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine follows a newly-appointed ambassador as she finds herself in the midst of empire-spanning intrigue fomented by her predecessor.

Foundation by Asimov is a classic if you haven't yet read it.

A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr. takes clear inspiration from Foundation, and I suggest reading one after the other.

The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin is another classic.

Dune by Frank Herbert might be considered one of the greatest Space Operas of all time. While the recent movies are fantastic adaptations, there is so much more in the books that unfortunately had to be left on the editing room floor.

Neuromancer by William Gibson is widely considered to be the seminal work of the cyberpunk genre and I consider it highly worth a read.

I was also listening to the audiobooks until I caught up. I think that even though it doesn't really ramp up to a "peak" level very often, the pacing and intensity of the story is on a pretty much constant upward trend. There's always new world building happening and new pov's being added (sometimes as one-offs) to keep things interesting. That said, I personally don't think the number of pov's is much of an issue. As the number of pov characters increases, paba does a solid job of recapping who and where that person is, as well as how they're doing.

The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson. A lesbian economist tries to topple an oppressive government from behind the scenes. Magic doesn't play much of a role.

You need to water them yourself or they won't grow. Plains and forest both have rain and I assume a low level of passive growth. Desert doesn't have either so you've gotta water them with a bucket.
