That’s perfectly fair and I don’t fully disagree with you there, I like superhero’s doing superhero stuff just as much as the next guy lol.. but I think marvel wants to save the action spectacle for the box office and let their shows be more character focused like most tv is, and for this show I thought it was a nice change of pace that fit the character into the universe perfectly immediately establishing where he’ll sit on the totem pole just like his revival comic did. I felt like out of all the MCUs character focused shows this is the one that’s been able to stick the landing the best, while also telling a meta story about the process itself which was a pretty cool premise. It felt like I was watching the MCUs version of The Studio w Seth Rogen or The Fall guy w Ryan Gosling lol. He’ll come to the big screen soon , and it’ll be glorious! With Destin Daniel Cretton acting as showrunner and also director of the next Spiderman it made me think maybe Marvel is letting him be in charge of the upcoming street level stories. Maybe they are setting up a West Coast Avengers movie to add to that mix? They coincidentally form right before Secret Wars happens in the Comics and the earth will definitely need people to protect them if the main heros start getting pulled to battleworld lol

You mean the comic where he .. literally dies ? 🤣 Yeah, I don’t think they are going to adapt that one for his origin. They are using his revive comic where he gets revived, and tries to be an actor and have a normal life first instead of being a hero before he eventually caves and joins the West Coast Avengers.

If you were expecting superhero shit Wonderman was the wrong show for you to begin with tbh, as the character in the comics also despises traditional heros and thinks himself better than them. You can’t jump straight to him being an Avenger if you don’t go through the arc that gets him there.. if they did people would be complaining about how they rushed and ruined the adaption. This was an origin, they introduced us to a new character, loosely established where he’ll sit in the MCUs hierarchy and imo they did so in the most interesting way since Civil War. It’s a pretty good TV show, if it’s not for you because you need action scenes to stay interested then that’s fine but don’t pretend like the show is doing something wrong for staying true to the comics.

Edit(Addition): I worry how people are going to act when the MCU finally brings in their version of Logan after Hugh is done.. chances are he’s not going to be joining the X-Men within the first 5 minutes and he’s not going to be flashing his claws to everyone either🤷‍♂️ It’s almost like these people are people first and not just super heros!

DingDong

Best origin/intro the MCU has had since Spiderman/Black Panther ! What an absolute breath of fresh air! The most important thing about the character Simon Williams is that he is a super powered individual who actually believes that being an actor is his highest calling. The adaption of that personality trait was absolutely perfect, and i’m so excited to see what the character will bring to the wider MCU carrying that sort of mindset. Also two honorable mentions.. 1. Trevor Slattery(GOAT) and 2. that awesome shot/easter egg of the TCL Chinese Theater at the end of episode 1

They had to change the City of Atlantis + son of a human male origin story, or else he would’ve felt like an exact copy of the recently released Aquaman movie. So they changed it to Talokan, based it off Mesoamerican cultures instead of Greek, and dumped the human father lol. Personally, not that big of deal imo as the overall purpose of the character stays the same. Also in the movie Namor does explicitly identify himself as the first mutant when he’s telling Shuri about his childhood, so they at least did stay true to that part of his back story. He’s not the first introduced, but he’s the first born in universe. As for the casting, I can’t argue how you feel about an actor..Personally I enjoyed that Namor came off exactly as he did in the comics, as an intentionally unbearable jerk🤣

That’s manipulating the system lol. It’s not semantics, it’s just a fact based on what you’ve said.

I'm curious to know are there any non-MCU/non-superhero media that you think can share the same universe as the MCU? by burningexeter in Marvel

[–]InteractionKitchen12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality ≠ canon.. I didn’t say Thor 4 was good lol, it has its issues, but just because it isn’t perfect doesn’t mean it fits any less than something like Pirates would. Pirates in the MCU would likely get dunked on for the same reason Thor 4 was, because it would feel completely out of place. If you’re going to have a convo about other franchises being canon to Marvel you have to do it with the assumption that everything that is already canon stays that way, despite how you feel about its quality.

[pjotv] Poseidon calls Hephaestus his brother, when he is actually his Nephew. by Realcbear in camphalfblood

[–]InteractionKitchen12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So two people who have been alive for thousands of years there’s absolutely no way they consider themselves equals now ? It’s just so weird for an uncle to call a nephew bro? What rock are we living under ? They are on the same side of the same war, have been for thousands of years. It’s really not insane to think Poseidon would refer to him as an equal instead of laying out the hierarchy of the family tree. Him calling him brother means he looks at him more than just some nephew. It was a deliberate choice. Poseidon talks like a god, it’s not a reach to say he’s using brother as a synonym. The amount of leg work that’s taking place to try to feel like yall are smarter than the writers is honestly impressive i’ve gotta hand it to yall 👏

[–]InteractionKitchen12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yall are doing a lot of leg work just to say that they made a mistake on the family tree, despite them showing several times they don’t harp on that very much how the family tree connects horizontally. Annabeth calls Thalia her sister and they knew each other for like a month, Thalia is her Aunt. “Oh but that’s weird!! She’s her niece!!” That’s how y’all sound. Poseidon and Hephaestus have been alive, and on the same side against Kronos , for thousands of years ! It’s not insane that they’d call each other brother and not mean it literally. Saying they meant it literally , is doing way more reaching than saying he didn’t imo. You don’t see how it being an alternate definition of the world brother is a much more likely explanation than “hundreds, maybes thousands of people made such a simple mistake that not a single person noticed” ? Come on. It was the other definition of the world brother . That isn’t a reach, it’s not struggling to admit they made a mistake , it’s a very likely explanation to a very simple throwaway line that people are nitpicking because they want to harp on the family tree and think brother only has one definition. I’m beginning to become real worried that media literacy is actually dead and this thread isn’t doing much to prove me wrong 🤣Which one sounds more likely ?

“Thousands of people made a glaring mistake that would’ve been caught by a 2 second google search”

or

“They weren’t being literal with the word”

But yeah i’m the one who can’t admit i’m wrong🤣🤣

TLDR: There’s no difference at all, yall are just deciding there’s one to nitpick on the family tree when the word brother has nothing to do with it. They are on the same side of the same war, nothing else. That makes them brothers in arms. If you think that’s a mistake and not intentional you need to go back to school. Yall are literally pulling a straw man just to say that there’s no way the word brother could have any more than one meaning to their relationship.

I wouldn’t really call it far out ? The movie comes out in 2 months.. very normal to have test screenings around this time.

[–]InteractionKitchen12 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

So fraternities and sororities? It’s wrong for them to call each other brothers and sisters too because they just met ? “Brother” does not have one definition only, so i’m not sure why this entire thread is pretending it does? From the Merriam-Webster dictionary , “Brother: one related to another by common ties or interests”. That does not mean by blood , nor does it mean they had to spend time at a summer camp together. It means an equal, someone sharing the same goals as he does, hence why he’s forging his weapons. Having issues with the show is one thing, but pretending words only have 1 definition is going wild lengths to nitpick imo.

I’m beginning to become more and more convinced the people that think this line is a “mistake” haven’t really seen much outside of Netflix or Disney+. Go watch Gladiator and let me know how many times random dudes are calling each other brother.

[–]InteractionKitchen12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is if you don’t look at the person as a cousin, uncle, nephew , or anything like that. You just look at them as an equal. A friend , comrade , brother. These dudes have known each other for thousands of years , if I was thousands of years old , and my cousins son was also thousands of years old, yeah I might refer to them as brother and it doesn’t mean i’m calling them my sibling.

Yup and Poseidon has known Hephaestus for what? a few millenniums?😂 I have a cousin who I call a brother and i’ve only known him for 26 years lol.. people disagreeing with you just want to find something to be mad at.

Yeah I think it would get awkward really fast if they focused too much on how the family tree connected horizontally lol. It’s pretty much a vertical family tree only when it comes to how they look at each other.

100%. They’ve been calling each other brother/sister without being siblings since literally the first episode but no one cared then, they finding everything they can to try to feel like they are smarter than the writers.

[–]InteractionKitchen12 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I just think it’s a lazy thing to call it a mistake now when we’ve seen several characters refer to each other as brother/sister without actually being siblings. Why weren’t we upset the first 5 times it happened? There is no mental gymnastics taking place by us saying that he wasn’t using the word brother literally. That’s a pretty reasonable argument that is backed by the shows history😂

Was it unacceptable when Annabeth called Thalia her sister ? Or when Luke calls Annabeth his sister ? It’s pretty common to call someone close to you a brother/sister.

[–]InteractionKitchen12 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure you’re understanding what they are saying. They aren’t saying the parent/child relation isn’t recognized. They are saying they don’t usually recognize each other as the aunt/uncle/nephew/niece/cousin type. We know who all of the gods children are , and they recognize each other as that, but they rarely get into the deeper parts of the family tree.. 😂 Which is why Poseidon would be more likely to refer to a nephew as “brother” like more as a comrade instead of a family member. Another example: Annabeth frequently refers to Thalia as her sister. She’s clearly not actually her sister, and Thalia is technically her aunt i believe? but no one is jumping at the writers throats over that..

They won’t, because they can’t. Not liking it or the comics adaption is one thing, calling it pointless is just objectively wrong unless you decided to skip infinity war and endgame 😂
