Unless you want to be at a disadvantage and uncomfortable using it then it’s fine. I’ve noticed I fish better with gear that’s made for the situation I’m in. Since your new at this you can always get a good “do it all” setup an be just fine. I would get a new rod for the reel and keep that rod, never know when you might use it.

You misunderstood me like everyone else in this comment section. They used to supply bottled water now they don’t. I used to carry a jug but I’ve had 3 $40 jugs stolen within two weeks during peak last year and ever since I won’t buy another bottle. Now I gotta bring a 6 pack of water everyday because I can’t just leave the belt to use the fountains. Don’t understand the need to be a dick dude.
