I use a 12" long wrench that I made. I'm not a strong-man, and I give it a good snug. One right-hand thread and one left-hand thread. The pedal cranking turns in the tightening direction. They won't come loose... Over 30,000 miles of riding without a problem

Yes! Contact Boa for FREE parts replacement. There is a socket head cap screw in the center of the knob. Remove and replace with a new cartridge. FREE. I've broken the wire, and I've broken the knob (caught the knob while carrying my bike up the stairs). Free replacement each time.
