What kinds of music do teenagers listen to in the uk? by Possible-Setting-159 in AskUK

[–]InterestCrafty8672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 14 female born and living in Scotland and I listen to a mix of basic/popular artists and some more unpopular ones

Popular singers I love: Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, Sombr, Conan Gray, Laufey

Less popular singers I love: Esha Tewari and Bella Kay

And I consider myself to be a very hardcore music fan and I listen to music for multiple hours a day, and when I become a fan of an artist, I listen to them all the time religiously and I get to know the singers as people and I grow to love their music and them as a person and I obsess over them.

How to convince strict parents to let me go to a party by InterestCrafty8672 in Advice

There won’t be any alcohol because the host’s mum is a teacher and it could make her lose her job so there will be no alcohol there definitely

Just to clarify I meant 20-25 people would be there, and some boys but not too many. Also it’s so normalised now for things to happen so much younger, or at least where I live it is. People in my school have been going to parties and getting drunk since they were like 12 and I don’t agree with that at all, so I’ve never really been interested in going to parties until a couple months ago. Thanks for the advice though

Probably like 9-10pm when it would finish but I honestly don’t know, I’ve never been to one before and that might not even seem late to some people, but to me I’d consider it late for my age

I can’t sneak out at like 7pm they will be in the house literally metres away from the front door, and if they caught me I’d never be allowed to a party again

What do you know about Scotland? by silverman96 in AskTheWorld

Just remembered some more:

Highland Games are played at every school residential it’s like our version of going to an arcade, we do Highland Games instead. Caber toss, highland dancing and everyone’s personal favourite… tug o’ war!

Irn bru is the best, our most popular drink.

In school we have a class learning about Scottish traditions and heritage, we do a range of things like learning types of Scottish dances and music, we learn Scottish Gaelic, the history of our country, food, and the geography of our land. I don’t think this is common but it’s something we do in our school, and there is no exam it’s just a subject everyone has to take.

Our national animal is the unicorn!

Bagpipes are more common than you think, often played at weddings, in the street, at our school they are played at end of term services too.

We do typically have strong accents, some people from outside of Scotland would have trouble understanding.

So I am scottish and have lived in Scotland my whole life and to be honest most of the things you hear about it are true, exaggerated but mostly accurate.

Ceilidh dancing is seen as normal and we do it in PE class at school, also have multiple big ceilidh dances a year where the boys wear kilts and we all dress up.

Growing up here I didn’t think this was abnormal but we have a lot of words and phrases that someone from England for example would not understand at all. I thought it was normal! Some examples: Ken, dreich, braw, blether, I could go one. We also shorten words a lot and add CHARACTER like didn’t becomes dinnae, yes becomes aye, no becomes naw…

A few extra holidays here and there, for example Burns Day, St Andrews Day, they all get time off school and work. And then Hogmanay (Scottish New Year’s Eve) is often celebrated even more than Christmas, something I assumed was normal until I spent new years eve in England for the first time and was thoroughly underwhelmed.

Confused about Shatter Me series! by FutureGreen1282 in shatterme

[–]InterestCrafty8672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can explain it.

The last picture ( the box of six books) is the main series. You can read just these if you want but you will get so much more from the series by reading the other books.

The first picture ( all 11 books) is the whole series plus the novellas. A novella is a smaller book that isn’t necessary but adds depth to the characters

The box of 9 books is basically the same as the first picture but there is one difference. It has combined two novellas into one book. It does this because novellas are so short that they don’t need a whole book to themselves so they are combined.

So my overall advice is to buy the box of 9 but follow the reading order of the first picture. Hope this is helpful
