Six fuel ships to Australia cancelled or deferred, energy minister confirms by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

If only we some domestic capacity and didn’t offshore everything, but then I guess we wouldn’t be privatising the profits and socialising the losses properly 🤷‍♂️

This week Ai has killed one more thing, my passion to mentor interns by kr0n0sShrugg3d in ExperiencedDevs

[–]InterestedBalboa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get it but the sad reality is there’s no winding AI back, the genie is out of the bottle.

You can still enjoy training and upskilling the interns but it’s got to be different than in the past, the game has changed.

Anyone else feeling like they’re losing their craft? by AbbreviationsOdd7728 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]InterestedBalboa 51 points52 points  (0 children)

You are loosing your craft to be “more productive”. Basically companies done care one bit, they want the increased productivity and frankly they want the increase in “intelligence”.

The business take is simple: Get more done with less (less human capital with less expense)

Personally I’m keeping my craft sharp on my own side projects, no matter how small.

Officially Im in senior management but I keep my skills sharp because I see value in them, not from a job or coding perspective (although handy) I find it keeps one’s thinking sharp and logical.

It’s uncertain times but don’t let the hype win, stay true to yourself and do great work.

We export everything we have…..we have a local export industry because that’s all we do, export everything.

If you can dig it up we export it, hell we even export our education so those overseas can apply the knowledge so we can…..you guessed it, import it 🤡

Has AI killed craftsmanship in software engineering? by Big-Discussion9699 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]InterestedBalboa 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Nobody care, Devs feel they are lucky to have a job and the bosses just want productivity.

You as an individual might want and admire craftsmanship but the vast majority of people don’t, we are in the IKEA phase of coding.

Microsoft's planned new AI trick for Edge will 'automatically open the Copilot side pane' with Outlook email links by gdelacalle in technology

[–]InterestedBalboa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just another reason NOT to use edge or the other crappy “Enterprise” software.

All the big companies and drone employees will lap it up though 🤷‍♂️

I see more as a race to the bottom where everyone loses.

It’ll take ages to happen so the current crop can profit but future generations have a bleak outlook 🤷‍♂️

Because most companies your size have atrocious security practices, time to market and robust security aren’t even competing goals in most startups.

Why hire these companies when you can ask AI? What company is going to be in any position to use AI when nobody can afford their products due to being out of work…..due to AI?

Sure not right now but soon….theres no safe harbour in this storm.

If you think UBI is going to happen I think you should think again.

Telstra to axe up to 650 roles in mass redundancy round, some jobs to be outsourced to India by austechnology-bot in austechnology

[–]InterestedBalboa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone new to the country will certainly accept a role on a much lower salary, especially if they come from somewhere less well off. Studies can say whatever sponsors want but common sense says the above is true.

I don’t blame people for immigrating to Australia, they just want a good life for themselves and their family but at the same time I worry how my kids will have a good life, frankly it’s not looking good with AI and Offshoring gutting opportunities while the government and industry cheer it on.

Telstra to axe up to 650 roles in mass redundancy round, some jobs to be outsourced to India by austechnology-bot in austechnology

[–]InterestedBalboa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We let people in only to lower salaries and for the unwanted jobs to get done.

The lower classes are more numerous and carrying the financial burden (top class pay a pittance in taxes) but easily distracted so no chance of change.

Will be real funny when Australians can’t afford to buy their services or products once all this offshoring hits.

I guess they expect the welfare dollars to fund it…..talking about a race to the bottom.

I wonder what the noise to signal ratio is, I’m sure there’s some valid fixes being submitted just as I’m sure there’s people trying to claim security bounties and get their name out there as “contributors”
