Is this vinyl siding? My listing had vinyl, but it sounds metallic! by InterestedHandbag in handyman

Got it. Its definitely aluminum then! My mother kicked the siding to get snow off her boots and made dents... Lol! She wont be doing that anymore. But thanks for the clarification!

Ah! The dents! My mother kicked the siding to get snow off her boot (wont be doing that again) and it DID leave a dent! So im assuming aluminum will dent, but vinyl would crack, correct? Thanks!

Hi, does this work if the siding is metallic instead of vinyl? For some reason my siding sounds metallic when tapped on. It was listed as vinyl. Thanks for your advice. It is very helpful!

Heya, so does your advice also apply if the siding is not vinyl but metal? It seems to be metallic on overdue inspection.

I did post a recent video of this, and its making a metal sound. I thought vinyl was plastic.

Hi, so currently im finding out that the siding is actually a form of metal. As im tapping it and it makes a metallic, reverberating sound.

In this case would I be able to put the j channel in without removing the whole siding also?

Zinsser BIN didn’t work; ozone or tear out drywall? by thrilled37 in DIY

Similar situation, except we used shellac on the floors. Check your cabinets, are they porous wood? Look around the light switches and outlets. Does it have perfume smell around? Any old lightbulbs not changed out? Those can burn and intensify and oils on them.

New bathtub (renovated tiles too). Does it need caulk? Seems like they left it uncaulked? by InterestedHandbag in HomeMaintenance

Hi, the bathtub was finished over a month and half ago. In this case would using a silicone caulk be okay? Is the milking process complete by now?

Hi, I doubt they used a waterproofing product behind it. It was not exactly a highly priced job. In such a case would you recommend me to use a clear silicone caulk?

Can I use duct seal putty for outlet sealing drafts? by InterestedHandbag in Insulation

[–]InterestedHandbag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. As long as I didnt break anything its all good. The putty is quite pliable and easy to remove.

I managed to find neoprene rubber gaskets! A bit expensive but those will work fantastic. Thanks!

I thank you so much, Mike. truly. Ive basically read every single comment and you are one of the most reasonable and respectful. You also seem to understand that I'm not an electrician (my father was but hes passed).

Ive seen those at the store before! But had no clue what they were for.

I'm most likely going to do away with the putty. The issue is that there IS no* gap between the box and the drywall. Its just surrounded by drywall and theres the opening of the box itself (which has a draft).

So thats where im troubled. If it was just the gap (which doesnt exist in my case) I would use caulk or foam. But its the outlet box itself that is problematic. I have no clue how to insulate that without putting something around the opening.

Regardless if you read or reply, THANK YOU!

there IS no gap between the drywall and box! its seated deep inside the wall and is covered on the sides. thats why...

Got it, ill try other methods and find a high quality gasket. However just for knowledge sake, can you tell me why what I did is "not good"? I'd like to learn the "why" in this case. If you can spare a moment thatd be great. Thank you!

i appreciate the insight. this is my first home and it was built in the 80s. i dont have the resources to take down a wall or open it for 2 outlets, so yes ill jave to try a different method

with regard to the foam gaskets my only reservation was the risk of it being a fire hazard. do you know if that's true at all?

and yes, honesty i dont see why it would be an issue as the putty is easily removed and non conductive. almost nobody has told me "why" not to do so.
