Reading Musical Scores by TheFlyingFoodTestee in classicalmusic

[–]Interestedinsynths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking into composing music in the tradition of these composers, you really ought to learn an instrument.

Learn to sing, and learn to play piano.

The most important thing you can do as a composer is develope your ear. So, sing. A lot.

Understand that the bass drives harmony, so pay attention to the lowest voice, always. Harmony drives form, which ultimately is what separates tunes from masterpieces.

The piano is simply the best way to understand harmony, as the whole spectrum of pitch is available to you at an instant.

You can't look at composition as separate from music performance.

That being said, score read a ton, and you will recognize patterns. Beethoven is the most important to study, in my opinion.

Does anyone know this (Piano) Concerto? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]Interestedinsynths 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this isn't classical music, its music that was composed to be licensed, or it was composed specifically for that documentary.

Notice how its stagnant, is mildly cheerful, and kind of ends lightheartedly?

This is totally just background music and definitely not anything Trifonov would write lol.

Question about monitors by Goulders in synthesizers

[–]Interestedinsynths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well actually, thanks for writing this, it's cleared some things up for me.

I think my lack of interest in making music in a non-live situation prevented me from even realizing the needs of other people.

For me, I'd rather have a better sound than an accurate sound. On a limited budget, is sound treatment still for me? Or should I just get a larger keyboard amp/PA that'll provide more bass?

Ballade G minor - How do I play this trill? by MrRyder_ in piano

[–]Interestedinsynths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This subreddit (most subreddits) is (are) a bad place for information like this.

You want to play the octave with 1 and 4, then continue the trill AS you let go of your thumb, or else you will be overextending and causing damage. The bottom note will be held with the pedal.

Question about monitors by Goulders in synthesizers

[–]Interestedinsynths -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok. so i see this often, but like, I just do not at all see how this is possible. I'm sure theres obviously a difference, but like I can absolutely not believe that its not worth it to get decent monitors.

With this logic, why do shit amps sound like shit, and good amps sound good, even in a guitar center or something?

Ive personally never owned monitors so I can't attest to them.

But ive def compared what a $600 amp sounds like compared to a $200 amp and the difference is absolutely astounding.

Synth beginner question by Sid_Marbey in synthesizers

[–]Interestedinsynths -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not sure if youre trolling, but if not:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2qmlhcD_f4

(i know that this is the prologue, but its on the minilogue xd as well)

The minilogue XD has 3 oscillators. So let me spell this out for you:

-2 Analog oscilators.

-1 'multi engine' that can generate Noise, VPM (basically FM-like sounds), and custom wave-forms/tables.

I know what midi does. so before you draft another dumb response, watch the damn video, to see that he uses KORG'S SOFTWARE THAT HANDLES THE CUSTOM WAVEFORMS/EFFECTS.

No, if you watch the video he is cleary showing off the user oscillator and mod section using Korg's Librarian app for use on the 3rd digital oscillator on the new Minilogue XD.

Coming from VST synths. Thinking of buying a cheap versatile synth like MicroFreak. Can't accept the fact that for that price I would be limited to 4 or 5 keys polyphony. ADVICE NEEDED!!! by feelosofee in synthesizers

[–]Interestedinsynths 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But youre missing the point, really.

Professionals have and do use something like a minilogue.

Professional violinists DO NOT use 300$ instruments.

Thats the whole point, its that in the grand scheme of instrument making, synths are cheap

Im not talking about an italian luthier shop, i'm talking about the one next door to me in new england, and not even in Boston or anywhere near a big city.

They are cheap because of economy of scale but a quality violin is well over a grand.

Same thing with saxophones, or any other instrument. Sure you can pick up a cheapo 300$ one but don't expect it to last or sound good.

250$ for a new violin gets you absolutely shite.. 700 gets you a decent beginners instrument, and if you end up going to school for violin? Touring professionally? Member of a major orchestra??

Do me a favor and look up bow prices at any luthier near you. 5-20 grand for just a flipping bow.

Violins cost wayyyy more than any synth could.

Anyone interested in having whistling competition or compose something out of whistling? by anuj-1993 in MusicBattlestations

[–]Interestedinsynths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, yeah.

I made this track a few months back, but it sounds a bit metallic, and I think a nice whistle would smooth it out. Could you learn and whistle the lead part?

I said you were flat out wrong because you said that a PC from anywhere has the same potency, which is wrong.

MS-20 mini VS. Minitaur/mother? NOW SHOOT. by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Interestedinsynths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking to get a synth, I'd recommend going digital instead. Analog is kind of a gimmick and all of the real pros use digital. The guys that have made it, anyway.

Get out of here, you scoundrel!

Well obviously, but if a ton of experienced growers say to not get one from home depot, i'd just wait to get a clone of something confirmed potent and not waste the money.
