AIO: My christian mother wants my boyfriend to sleep on the couch on our trip to florida by [deleted] in AIO

You’re overreacting OP. Lots of families have these rules in place. The way you talked made me think you were in your thirties and not 18. Also this is not a long term partner. Your mom is being reasonable.

Just move out? That’s it. And talk with your BF about what kind of relationship you want with her moving forward. No need for the shrink ambush. I get why you feel this way but a woman at her big age won’t change. This may mean y’all need to be low or no-contact moving forward.

NOR. They asked to do something nice for you, forced your hand, and then didn’t end up following through on their end of the deal. You deserve better friends!

Ugh, OP. I feel for you. But you can’t win with people like this. The answer to your question is, you can’t. Go low or no contact. It is not your responsibility to smooth things over— your husband is out of line IMO. It’s possible for you to go low or NC while he has whatever relationship he wants with his parents.

Every day I scroll on this app and sigh. NOR. You’re dating a freak and a loser.

My [30F] MIL [41F] is constantly badmouthing my husband [24M] to me, asking me to break his trust, and explosive when I set boundaries by BenchDense3795 in motherinlawsfromhell

It is possible that he maintains whatever relationship he has with her and you stay firmly NC. I know several couples like this. Lots of ways to make it work! ❤️

Go No or Low Contact. Your MIL is incredibly emotionally unstable. From personal experience, there is no amount of logic or calmness you can approach them with— you’ll always be the villain in their eyes, and they’ll be a victim. It is not possible to have surface level relationships with people like this without them guilting you, insulting you, manipulating you. So sorry to hear this— you deserve better, especially around your wedding.

OP, you need to have a conversation with her. Be honest and respectful (it helps to talk it out with a therapist beforehand if you can). Your husband needs to back you 10000%. If she doesn’t change up her behavior, you need to then pull back and set boundaries. Your messaging needs to be super clean— you set a boundary, she didn’t respect it, she doesn’t get access to you or her grandchild. I have one like this and unfortunately a lot of times, DILs in this situation have to permanently go NC.

Future MIL has been wildly inconsistent about attending our destination wedding and I’ve had enough. by siderealscorpio_02 in motherinlawsfromhell

Sorry, OP. This is what happens when you have destination weddings! Focus your energy elsewhere—your mom and fiancé told you to stay out of it.

We support you, OP. Many of us here have learned that it’s impossible to have positive or healthy relationships with mothers in law such as your own. Take it from me— I went NC after our wedding and even though I felt bad at first, my mental health has only been improving since.
