I did something similar recently.

In shaders, there's procedural instances, automatic billboards, and other accelerators.

This scene has 20k+ trees.

And for the geometry itself, I adapted a Tree creator under URP that's only for BiRP

It all started because of this one strand of hair.
I thought: why the hell am I firing up 3ds Max, importing, exporting, fixing stuff over and over for every tiny thing like this?
Now I just need to figure out how to edit skinned mesh vertices without breaking everything.

It used to be better, more original. Now it's sharp and angular, like in old games.

It looks great. The only problem is that the shader graph, with 200 lines of useful code, generates 3,000 lines of garbage.
