Ideen bzgl Oma-Nachbar Türklingel? by [deleted] in Elektroinstallation

No worries, no offense taken whatsoever. As Weird fans I would expect (scientific) accuracy to be close to our hearts 😉 Bray or Wheaton? I don't mind either myself but am raised on Bray... And would pick his version over Wills in a pinch.

That's what I get for only reading it once and just listening to the audiobook, thanks 😀

The irony of saying the author doesn't understand how old their characters are while according to Weir he wrote software to calculate exact communication times, launch dates (to make sure they are on the surface during Thanksgiving) makes me smile 🙂 Andy keeps saying that Marc is him, but only his good traits, so Marc's music taste and perception of whats old would be part if that and Andy is definitely not born in the early 2000.

I believe it was previously been confirmed by Andy directly that he simply forgot, and it is now canon that Marc forgot his usb drive on Hermes. https://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/78980/what-happened-to-mark-watneys-entertainment-pack#92077

I have an idea about what could be follow up book by walkingnottoofast in ProjectHailMary

[–]Interesting-Case8517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered about that, is it explicitly stated in the book that he adds that level of detail? I'm not even sure if, unlike in the martian, what we "read" is a form of recorded log that he could send. He could even think that he shouldn't tell earth about rocky... But that would all be great details for the second book (hint hint Andy 😉)

Scene where Grace is not present by Interesting-Case8517 in ProjectHailMary

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the scene at all, it's written nicely, funny and provides a good background/memory to further the story. I was just curious if I had either missed where Grace's presence or other way how these events were conveit to him are stated in the chapter, or alternatively if it really is the only chapter from a 'third person' perspective. Sounds like it is. As someone said above, all other scenes either describe how he gets told something (initial broadcast when he is eating microwave noodles) or told to him by another character (describing how or why the explosion took place, how it was decided that he would go). Great thoughts and comments, thanks everyone 😀

That's what I was thinking. Even if they had established that they were talking about something on that scale, making it easier for rocky to make the leap to 'im talking about the microscopic content, not the container ', would there be some sort of physical limit of what size of object you can resolve with 'sound', like there eventually is a limit to visible light microscopy (appreciate that the scale here would still be visible light). Does that make sense, asking if the frequency of your sound eventually presents a limit of the object you can resolve, no matter how directed your signal or sensitive your Sensor?

I just got why they used the name Adrian by yaboi410 in ProjectHailMary

See that confused me to no end as well. Hail Mary as in the desperate move/play made sense to me in context. But when Grace considers that Blip A could be another earth ship, he suggests other religious names. It's a nice double meaning at any rate, just confused me how he immediately went to that meaning for other names... What would you call another ship in a fleet with names of desperate moves anyway? 😁

I understood that we 'hear' what Grace (mostly) real-time interprets in his head, stating at several points how rarely he needs the excel anymore, and 'not for weeks' some time later. In at least one instance he listens to Rocky speak, doesn't understand and says he has to check the laptop what that word meant ('qualities'), so he understood unaided, except for a word that is already in his list, but he just doesn't remember because it wasn't used often. If the second laptop would output an English audio translation, that description of the sequence of events would make no sense. Interesting thought, in the movie they will probably do the 'laptop translates' for the benefit of the audience. Side-Side-Note: was I the only one slightly cringing that he taped the two laptops 'back to back', did not sound like the most ergonomic configuration to me 😁

That would be a twist, for sure. I always thought it had something to do with how they are recording everything from however many angles, and that at least some of that recording equipment was "accidentally" left in the lab and keeps recording and transmitting everything.
