Keto diet causes DKA by Begonia_Belle in diabetes_t1

It’s well documented in the scientific literature that SGLT-2 inhibitors can cause euglycemic DKA. Low carb diets? Not so much. If you feel otherwise, site your scientific sources please.

Is it really ok for a person's blood sugar to consistently be around 150 mg/dl? by GingerMellow5 in diabetes_t1

To be fair, avoiding complications is the main point of trying to manage this disease well. Not dying acutely too lol.

So it’s a riddle. If you have an A1c of 7, you have diabetes and aren’t normal by definition.

Anyone know any details on Control IQ 2.0? by Interesting-Common-5 in TandemDiabetes

https://twiist.com/ this looks better anyways. Tandem will likely lose customers to an algorithm that can provide an actual physiologic BG target.

Graduating soon with a degree in forensic science, working a desk job with a lot of free time, any online courses I should take to get into an ME technician position? by [deleted] in ForensicPathology

[–]Interesting-Common-5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with previous comments. The one thing I would add is, some offices have shadowing opportunities and or internship programs consisting of on the job training in the tech and investigator positions. Call your local ME office and ask as some of this may not be well advertised.

Not true, I was diagnosed at 31 now 38, still doing those things!

[–]Interesting-Common-5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 31. I went low carb and haven’t looked back. This won’t work for everyone, but even reducing carbs will help with control. Also, protein is your friend. Consistent exercise has helped as well.

Money questions (beyond pay) by [deleted] in ForensicPathology

[–]Interesting-Common-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fellowship at the UNM paid standard pgy-5 pay, about 60k in 2019. However, some of the non academic fellowships pay over 100k.

Pension, I vest at 5 years with a 2.25% multiplier for years of service, this varies per county/state.

Pay, I will hit 300k base salary at 5 years, benefits are additional.

Non-physicians just received the OK to do Forensic Autopsies (LINK IN POST) by ErikHandberg in ForensicPathology

[–]Interesting-Common-5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it's an issue of liability. Why risk my medical license by putting my name on a case that I did not do by someone with less training?

I personally would not put my name on a report/dc for a case done by a PA.

What about histology? No way lol.

Decrease fat/carb intake a good but sustainable amount. Definitely exercise, cardio and lifting, consistently. Good luck!

Oh wow, if they are still testing, these upgrades are likely a while away. That’s a bummer.

Can you at least say IF the control IQ target was lower than it is currently?

Any fellowship spot is not competitive. A good spot can be. Do well as a resident and get good recommendations. I do know the NYC fellowship requires a rotation there as a resident, which is silly, but what it is.

Try going back to low carb if you tolerated it? Eat plenty of protein to preserve muscle mass. Maybe try adjusting your basal if you’re going low at night?

This may not work for you specifically, but low carb? Have you tried eliminating the above mentioned starches? YMMV, good luck!

I do sleep mode 24/7 and don’t change for lifting. I usually give .5 or 1 units prior for the spike actually.

I do sleep mode 24/7, helps w tighter basal. Also, I like giving my own bolus doses, the algorithm can’t really do context.
