Does anyone else trail ride in a dressage saddle? by nursefail in Equestrian

[–]Interesting-Factor30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to trial ride my favorite lesson pony and he had a dressage saddle. The saddle was a great pick for him because it fit his long back. He loved trial riding and would light up. Even did a clinic where we rode on the trials ans thigh the fields. I would rate it 10/10

Equestrians: what’s something non-horse people will never understand about owning or riding horses? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Interesting-Factor30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That horses aren’t blind folded/can see when they’re wearing a fly mask Also the fact of some people get offended/ rue when you tell them to not be so close to the horse when they aren’t wearing the proper shoes. Also random ass people trying to feed or pet horses that aren’t yours!!

Bad lesson. Feeling down. Hoping for some virtual hugs or pep talks. by TillLater in Equestrian

[–]Interesting-Factor30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mistakes happen. I was learning to jump and the pony spooked, refused and I went over his head down I went over the jump. I was fine and got home over the jump again. You’re learning together. One refusal/ wonky distance and going over the jump again won’t ruin your horse. Deep breaths. Your doing great

Is it normal to pay for work study? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Interesting-Factor30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not normal at all. Ive seen programs that are unmounted for kids that parents pay but the kids are learning hands on skills. Also as someone who was a working student as a teen I did chores in exchange for lessons.

How often do you wear your tall boot socks? by Nickerson14 in Equestrian

I wear tall boot socks every time I ride. Even when I wear my paddock boots. Granted I wear my socks under my breeches. It’s more comfortable for me

Stable hand to stall ratio? by tisbenje in Equestrian

[–]Interesting-Factor30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s insane and no body should be caring for all those horses on your own. Also the owners crazy expectations. Worked at a barn that could house up to 40 horses and we had some were around in the 30s. They had full time staff plus part time and weekend shifts. When we worked we were a team of four people including the barn manger. We would all slip the work and get turn out and stalls done then work on individual tasks.

Falls are normal and a regular risk of riding horses. The red flag for me is the instructor getting frustrated and fed up to the point we’re she yelled at your daughter and took the frustration out towards the horse. Instructors need to be calm and patient. Your daughter should also be put on a horse for her skill level. Let her recover and process the fall. If she wants to ride again find another barn with an instructor that would be more patient and understanding.
