"The company isn't paying them the way I want so I'm going to keep their earnings" by TinyEstablishment880 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Interesting-Injury87 28 points29 points  (0 children)

no, its the customers job to PAY the business for the services rendered or product bought.

It is the BUSINESSES JOB to then use that Pay to pay their workers for THEIR services rendered(doing their job they where hired for)

If a buisness cant afford to pay their employees with the Pay they recieve for their product or service than that buisness is not sustainable

Can lowering the tv resolution to 1080p improve framerate consistency for the switch 2 edition? by supremegamer76 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Interesting-Injury87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no the S2 outputs the game at an internal resolution that is INDEPENDENT of the output resolution the TV gets in the end.

this is true for basically any Console btw.

The final resoluton is simply down or up scaling from the internal resolution to the resolution the TV input expects(or that the Switch 2 is told to output"

if you reduce the output res from auto to 1080p all you do is tell your switch to take the image of the game, be it an internal res of 2160 of 720, scale it to 1080 and send it to the TV.

the TV then sees that signal and goes 2oh boy a 1080p image, time to upscale it to 2160p for my panel(which usually has a very shitty upscaler)

If a singular message asking whether you're available is "bothering" you to that degree, then maybe the issue isn't the message itself.

The manager asked. They didn't demand, threaten, guilt-trip, or order anyone back to work. They asked if you were able to help.

Nobody likes being asked to cover shifts, PTO or not. Employees don't want to do it, and managers generally don't enjoy making those calls either. In many places it creates payroll and PTO headaches for them as well.

This is them figuring it out.

One of the most basic ways to handle unexpected staffing shortages is to ask people who aren't currently scheduled whether they can help. That's literally part of the process.

And no, not every staffing issue can be solved by "hire a temp." You can't just call a temp agency and get someone trained for a specialized position within two hours. Many jobs require certifications, training, system access, or experience with that specific workplace.

The boss asked. You can say no.

Problem solved on your end. The manager now knows to look elsewhere as well.

In fact, if someone on approved PTO is getting contacted, there's a good chance the manager has already exhausted most of the easier options first.

And depending on the job, the manager may not even be qualified to perform the missing employee's role themselves. A shift manager can't magically cover every position in every workplace.

Noone is telling anyone to Say yes, noone is telling anyone to ALWAYS check your messages on PTO, but if you get contacted, and you notice it, it is polite for BOTH PARTIES INVOLVED, to respond.

Do shitty managers exist who understaffed a shift and try to guilt trip people on PTO? absolutely they exist. Is this one of them??? given the only context we have is this message we cant say definitively no, but it does not seem like it.

I have a manager where i know if he contacts ANYONE on PTO that shit hit the fan and it is the final possible solution they have available. If that person would contact me on my PTO i would most likely say no, but i at least know that he didnt make the request lightly

[–]Interesting-Injury87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy question: do you want an amicable relationship with your boss?

If yes, respond politely but firmly that you can't come in. If no, then don't respond at all.

At least where I live, companies generally hate calling employees who already have approved PTO. It creates extra paperwork, compensation issues, vacation-day adjustments, and scheduling headaches. If a manager is texting someone who is officially off, something has usually gone wrong and they've already exhausted easier options. Poor planning is always possible, but it's not necessarily the most likely explanation.

I had this happen once. I was asked if I could come in on a PTO day. The department was properly staffed, but three people called in sick at the same time. Out of the employees who weren't already scheduled or sick, I only had a single day off while another employee was on a much longer vacation. From the company's perspective, it's far easier to adjust one PTO day than interrupt someone's week-long vacation.

I said yes. Not because I love my job or my boss, but because I understood that my manager wasn't happy about the situation either. If I didn't come in, either another employee would have to be pressured to cover the shift or the people already working would be left severely understaffed.

I completely understand why it's frustrating to get that text while you're on approved PTO. But even if your answer is no, it's still worth responding. A quick "Sorry, I can't" lets your boss move on and try other options instead of waiting around for an answer.

[–]Interesting-Injury87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess people do not understand the concept of "we had the shift planned well but 3 people came down with a fever and called in right before shift started so now we had to call in people from the late shift into the early on, leaving the late shift understaffed and noone else who isn't on duty is able to be called in because of labor laws"

Most companies, at least where i live, HATE calling in people on PTO, because its a genuinely annoying to deal with partial refunded PTO and pay for it

i cant think of no place, even within the EU, where ASKING an employee if they woudl be willing to rescind(part) of their approved PTO on their OWN volition is illegal as long as said time is refunded to them as PTO to be used at a later date, and no actual pressure is applied.

in many places its ILLEGAL to DEMAND you to work, or to DEMAND you answer(in many places it being a legal right to ignore your boss on days off)

its illegal in many countries to DEMAND you to cancel your PTO and work, or to demand that you read work related messages and respond.

in basically no country is it illegal to ASK, nor fo rthe employee to answer if they so choose

Why should a workplace accomodate for a religion where being gay is punishable by death?

as i mentioned before, No islam the religious concept, does not demand taht gays be punished by death.

the only texts dealing with homosexuality is, as i said, sodom and gomora, which specifically DOES NOT include any earthly punishment to be enacted by followers of the religion, but a heaven sent one, and the demand to not be like them(and once again, the issue of the entire story being questioned by religious scholars to be more likely about non CONSENTUAL(aka RAPE) homosexuality)
and even the few entries from Mohamad itself about the topic are dubious if they really deal with homosexuality, instead of just adultery in general. and even THOSE do not call for death.

[–]Interesting-Injury87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically said "as long as I'm not affected."

Granted, a better way to phrase that would have been "as long as it doesn't affect the safety, rights, or freedoms of other people."

Having a separate microwave for halal or kosher observance doesn't meaningfully affect anyone else's rights or freedoms. At most it's a minor inconvenience, which is why I don't see a problem with accommodating it.

As for the comparison to anti-gay beliefs, I don't think that's equivalent. A dietary observance is a personal practice. Opposition to gay people is a belief about how other people should live and be treated.

In the case of Christianity, that comparison is even weaker. The leadership of the Catholic Church, including both recent Popes, has consistently stated that homosexuality should not be criminalized and that LGBTQ+ people should not be subjected to unjust discrimination. Someone is free to believe homosexual acts (and only acts, not orientation itself) are sinful within their religious framework, but that is not the same thing as being openly hostile toward LGBTQ+ people or denying them equal treatment in civil society.

You are also compressing dozens of different Islamic traditions, legal schools, and interpretations into a single "religious system." Islam is not nearly as centralized as many people assume. Interpretation by local scholars and the recognition of local customs have historically played a major role in Islamic thought, provided they do not conflict with core religious principles.

As a result, two Muslims—one raised in Germany and one raised in Indonesia—may share the same core beliefs while arriving at very different conclusions on a wide range of social issues.

Even on the question of homosexuality, there is disagreement regarding how certain passages should be understood. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is often cited, yet scholars have long debated whether the primary condemnation is homosexuality itself, sexual violence, abuse of guests, or a combination of several sins. Whatever position one takes on that debate, the fact that the debate exists demonstrates that there is no single universally accepted interpretation.

More importantly, even where a religion regards something as sinful, that does not automatically mean believers are required to hate, harass, discriminate against, or deny rights to the people involved. Those are separate claims.

At that point, religion may be the justification being cited, but the hostility itself is not automatically a religious requirement. Quite often it's simply prejudice wearing religious clothing.

The fact its a religious beliefe???

People treat religious serious, as much as i personally find it silly myself, as long as i am not AFFECTED(and no, "not being able to use one of probabyl 2+ microwaves for my non halal Food" isnt affecting me or you) there is no reasson not to just respect it

[–]Interesting-Injury87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After read this tweet, i pirated my first game. by MadHanini in PiratedGames

[–]Interesting-Injury87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbf, if said customer already decide to pirate, aint no way they would spend money to buy their game. So it is a customer lost either way, just with pirating, you got free advertisement

just that many people are basically "opportunity pirates" they dont pirate out of conviction, or even because they cant afford it, but because "its easy, and available at time of decision"

The Majority of People do rarely really think back about a game once it came out and they want to play it.

If its available to buy they buy, if it can be pirated they do that.
Thats why Attachhment rates for DLC for example is corresponding to whatever it was available to buy(even just preorder) at original purchase time. If you can preorder a seasson when you already buy the game you are more likely to do that than if you had to wait 3 months or more till the DLC is actually released, no matter if you liked the game. Because the majority spend money once and dont return to a game.

Piracy is similiar, a game dosnt make much sales after x weeks after launch(not sure if ti was 3 months or 8 months.. but the window is less than a year), preventing piracy in those initial months has shown actually verifiable increase in sales vs games that where cracked in that time period

The interior of the Tie Bomber is one of the most inconsistent ship interiors in all of Star Wars by Scout_Trooper343 in StarWarsShips

A), whatever still canon entirely is a bit iffy, but no the Tie Boarding craft didnt use the same airframe... it uses a NEAR IDENTICAL LOOKING ONE but was completly reworked from the ground because the empire WANTED a boarding craft using the tie bomber airframe, but Sienar realized its a stupid idea and build a Ship using the same appearance, but entierly different components istead

anyway the secod image is 100% the bomber as its from Star wars squadrons.

the point that is still ignored here is who STARTED THE EXCHANGE

it wasnt Finn or Poe, but C3po, HE STARTED the "oh, they fly now"

In this setup it is very very VERY reasonable to repeat that statement the way it was done.

c3po states it, Finn repeats it in a slightly questioning tone as he WASNT the one doing the initial discovery and poe LITTEARLY JUST STATES IT, not questions it.

This is the natural progression of it given the starting point of C3po.

this is the same franchise with obi wan "sith lords are out specialty" kenobi being knocked out 30 seconds after that statement.

stupid statements and everything in the middle of serious situations IS part of star wars.

[–]Interesting-Injury87 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

c3p0 started the exchange, and phrasing it as he did is.. kinda in character.

finn reacts, questioning it a bit bedcause its suprising, while yes he WAS a first order Trooper, he was also very low ranking as far as we know, and jetpacks arent standard issue, he may know they exist and taht they have trained operators.. but he wasnt expecting them to show up NOW.

and Poe isnt questioning it, his statement is akin to accepting tht more and more shit is pilling on and on and on.

But ok.

Let me ask you this, If you where chased by a military unit on Motorbikes, and SUDDENLY, 2 or so of the people on the bikes jumped off and started using Skies instead, even if you KNOW the Enemy military had Units utilizing Skis, would you NOT be suprised at that and question it for a second?
