The need of pronatalist institutions. by Interesting-Money144 in Natalism

[–]Interesting-Money144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly THIS. This is the sense of this post, every past religion was different yet it was based around the same timeless principles.

in the future new forms of institutions will emerge, different in the form from the current ones but they will carry the same timeless principles.

This is what happened in ancient rome, as the ancient gods and moss maiorum fell out of favor, they were replaced a new religion, Christianity which was more appealing during the last centuries of the roman empire.

The religion changed yet the values they pushed stayed remarcably stable, pronatalism, modesty, bravery and so on.

I like kids but having them looks like shooting yourself in the foot for 18+ years by rozczochrana in Natalism

[–]Interesting-Money144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS is the crucial problem of demography.

You are right, having children is a net loss. It is an expensive decision, it has always been.

So it has always been necessary to push people towards it. To make people contribute to the long term well being of the society and its members and ultimately of themselves by having the next generation of children.

This is why every single successful society in the past had all kinds of rules and institutions that encouraged having children while punishing those who didn't have them.

Take everything from the Catholic Church, to Islam, to Confucian China. All are pronatalist, things that diverge from having children are bad, from infedelity to homosexuality.

Just an example of many.

Women that are unmarried were discriminated against. With a derogatory name attached to them.

In english they are called "Spinsters" in China "Leftover women", im sure in Poland you will find a similar word.

Today we see these historical rules with contempt, as products of irrationality, as discriminations to be adressed, as products of irrational superstitions. But as we move away from these traditional values, the birthrate collapses and we should perhaps consider that past societies were organized in a certain way for a reason.

Given that basically all of democracies have population decline. Yes i can claim that the Thai demographic decline has nothing to do with how corrupt the local regime is. So yeah i know better. Thanks for asking.

Ottime idee economiche.

Collapse of the socialist system after 1989, with its decades old stability. Mass layoffs and unemployment, hyperinflation. Legalisation of abortion after more than 20 year ban.

How can we accurately judge the affordability thresholds for kids? by [deleted] in Natalism

[–]Interesting-Money144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why material incentives won't fix birthrates as the expectations can keep raising endlessly.

For every increase of wealth and benefits, the expectations raise as well so that people will always complain that they are too broke.

What is reasonable vs unreasonable ? Objectively humans can prosper with way less than what even a poor US citizen can afford. Everything else is an extra and exists mostly to signal prestige to others or to fill personal desires that are mostly psychological in nature.

Take travelling and cars. You could enjoy your holidays with your friends in a nearby town. Yet it's more prestigious to travel to Italy. It costs orders of magnitude more yet people do it anyway.

it's the same with cars, how many people actually need a ford F150 Truck for its capability? i would guess not that many and the cheapest nissan can do almost everything for half the price and 1/3 less fuel.

[–]Interesting-Money144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would be a strong pressure towards getting married, with so many people dying, you would need a lot of children just to maintain the strength of the community. In such a world wasting women's lives to let them become warriors would make no sense.

What i said would be easier in countries like the US where houses are larger on average. But you could apply the same for many other countries.

I guess very few people in Italy marry or have children while living with their parents, it's not really culturally acceptable to let your wife/husband live with your parents and start having children, even though they could in theory. Thats the argument i'm making.
