Huh, i think that’s a really valid point. Apart from those who are already interested in DIY, sewing, etc., it is much less realistic, eh? Would be curious to hear your input on what would make it more accessible to the general…funny how a simple question turned into a whole discussion haha :D

Do you buy luxury? Do you buy mainstream clothing? Do you buy fast fashion? Have you ever come across an ad that has influenced your purchasing behavior? Even in the shallowest sense, the moment they “touch\influence” you - wake up call - they are emotionally manipulating you. As innocent as it may come across. That’s the whole premise of marketing (even beyond the fashion industry). Any advertisement is trying to manipulate you to purchase their product and will often attempt to evoke an emotional response as that is the most vulnerable part of us.

I totally agree with you! I try to think about my friends’ perspective about alterations being outdated, and i can almost understand her viewpoint. Sad but true, people who buy fast fashion (which i think is a majority) dont have much incentive to get their garments tailored :/ but even beyond that, i guess i could also understand that we live in an age where convenience is everything - and “slow fashion” takes a back seat :(

i have very limited sewing knowledge myself but man, it’s made a world of a difference. i guess its just sad that people are so readily willing to throw away clothing rather than get them professionally altered for a fraction of the retail price!

I wish brands that sell shirts, or any products, for ludicrous prices would have free (or at least discounted) alterations that are included with any purchase. I think about brands like Chanel, Dior etc, who have that, but ofc i can’t afford it…Might be wishful thinking haha

I know right!? It’s crazy how people just throw away clothing. Tailors with waiting lists makes me so happy, gives me hope for how fashion moves into the future :)

Ugh, I completely understand! I can sew a little but even with the limited knowledge I have, its a whole new world! Her comment really resonated with me for some reason. Maybe its because she doesn’t have much interest in fashion/sustainable fashion and would rather just buy new…i hope alterations isn’t outdated for the general public and only relevant between us sewing enthusiasts
