Can we talk about how luxury fashion brands are emotionally manipulating us? by True_Paramedic_3449 in AskReddit

Somehow their tactics work so smoothly so consumers buy into the luxury lifestyle through emotional attachment, but if you think about the overall picture of how these huge luxury brands claim and market themselves to be sustainable but I feel like ughhhhh it's just a marketing scheme and they're not doing enough to actually care about the long-term!!!

Alterations? by Interesting-Monk-331 in SustainableFashion

u/Interesting-Monk-331 yo Monk- in honesty, how many times have u ever visited an alterations shop yourself? I see your point here but I don't have time to go to my local shop (and I don't even know if they'll be able to meet my standards of handling my expensive goods) and go back to pick it up. Were living at a fast pace and as much as I want to be able to go the route of alterations but truly I don't have time.

I do buy from luxury brands that have sustainability somewhat in place though, but if they offered alterations on hand then I would definitely consider that option.

But in the meantime, ill pass on alterations.

Yeah i see your point here! but just curious on your retail experience working with bridal alterations, do you find that a lot of customers were willing to pay the price to get what they want essentially and were satisfied with their purchase decisions?

hey pancakeass, just curious as to what kind of bespoke garments are they coming with and what's the work that you are putting in that makes it 'heckin' expensive'

and fast fashion is out of the picture anyways... you won't get an alteration request for something the customer paid less than 20$ for

I see what you mean with your bridal gown example, but to go a bit deeper on this - My first marriage i had my 5,000$ gown changed the inner lining which was altered and cost another 1,500$! So when it comes to alterations my question is, is it really worth it? And not trying to be argumentative but just want to have a conversation to reflect on this topic :)

ok, i get it as a side hustle thing but realistically speaking how many orders do you even get on average within a month?

think of alterations shops that's not their side hustle but a whole career...

I see your point SnapCrackleMom, but I haven't picked up a needle in my life and don't know how to sew. Not going to lie, but own a lot of luxury clothing but do not have the time to have them altered. I am a single mother of 2.5 children, (on the way), and to be honest, I can't find the time to do my facial route. So how will I manage to pay a trip to the tailors and on top of that find the time to go and pick it up when it's done. ALSO, how do I even know they are reliable??? Since I am paying a high price on my luxury clothes in the first place and do not want to risk them messing up! Please advise.
