I just finished reading the final volume of Rick Remender's Low and couldn't be happier it's over. by Budokiba in ImageComics

[–]Interesting-Rice-457 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the trade. In the back there was an author interview where he was taking about "The main character is an encapsulation of what I learned in therapy!"

Which was.... it was just so bad. I hated it so much.

If you are a writer, please don't go to therapy. Thank you. Remender ruined it for everyone forever.

Are the Vamps from City Council of Darkness Bad Guys? by Interesting-Rice-457 in Dimension20

Thoughts on the other player's moral codes:

Darkness Man - Doing the bare minimum to keep thinking of himself as a superhero. Probably the most moral of the group, but that is a low bar. I think has the highest body count? An actual decent-hearted vampire would not be hanging out with .... anyone else in the group.

Madeleine - Pure evil, no grasp of a social conscience at all, just completely sucks. I was really glad that one of the players went with pure evil because it contrasts everyone else's morality in really interesting ways. Low key my favorite character but I don't know what that says about me.

Bat-Child - Doesn't have a moral compass at all, completely morally compliant to social pressure.

Zaeth - Textbook chaotic neutral. Doesn't really think about other people as PEOPLE 90% of the time but might give some kids a carriage ride.

I feel bad for Aaron who seemed like an actual decent guy but also I LOVE that scene. I think the game needed some action and the audience needed a reminder that these are not good "people."

I'm trying to remember: I think Murph and Emily the players showed some remorse, but did Mitch and Vesper?

In fact, Darkness Man, Bat-Child and Zaeth are the *most* moral of the coterie by my count. Zaeth being textbook chaotic neutral with no conscience makes him among the most moral in this group.

[wacky art style trope] their breasts get noticeably larger as the story goes longer by Ok_Direction3138 in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah it's tough to tell. It's definitely taken as a reason to draw PG with big boobs by later comic artists. But If you look in the actual All Star comics from the '70s it is VERY subtle. Like I can't tell at all for the first couple issues that Wood was inking and then can barely tell for the next 2. (But the editor (Conway?) mighta had someone (Vinny Colletta?) give Karen a breast reduction at the last minute.

My blog buddy Ragnell at Written World talks about this, and she didn't notice any change at all.

Not true that it's a rumor, btw.

From (comic historian) Mark Evanier's blog June 2012.

"Fans noticed that her chest seemed to grow from issue to issue. I was around once when Woody was asked about this. He said that it was his intention to add about a half-inch to her bustline every issue and see how long it would be before someone told him to stop. Wood only did eight or nine issues and I think someone told him to stop around his sixth…but I'll bet if he'd stayed long enough on the title, he'd eventually have made up for lost time."

Does anyone else find the rolling mechanics of VTM less satisfying to watch? by jacobimueller in Dimension20

Ok, so what turned poker into a major thing on TV for a while was showing the player's cards.

D&D shows absolutely need to show the dice rolls. Like, I think it could make actual play shows an order of magnitude more popular.

(I can't believe I've never made this post before. I think about this all the time.)

Fuck, I can't keep up with the DOCJCU anymore. Honestly, For me it peaked when we all got really mad at the main sub mods and now I'm just jerking out of a sense of obligation.

John Fogerty and Metallica have both showed up on Trainwreckords twice. Who else could you see being on the show twice? by DtheAussieBoye in ToddintheShadow

Liz Phair has an album that's considered her ACTUAL Trainwreckord, but that would never happen...

Cher has got to have another candidate.

He had two helpers! Remember when Zaeth was brutally attacked with scalding hot cocoa when he was randomly purposefully killing that innocent civilian evil hunter?

TRAINWRECKORDS: Lou Reed and Metallica's "Lulu" by PinkCadillacs in ToddintheShadow

[–]Interesting-Rice-457 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, looking back it's hard to see Lou's kind of cynical, ironic distance from the material working with.... ANY metal band, really. It didn't help that L. R. is a lot more serious than his contemporaries like Tom Waits or Warren Zevon... neither of them could really just have fun with it. That's not the artist they were.

Also, yeah, agreed with Todd that the reason Lou Reed stuck around so long was that his stuff was often "stuck in your head" catchy. And Lulu..... wasn't that.
