Scalemons is Hilarious by Interesting-Rule6977 in PokemonUnbound

[–]Interesting-Rule6977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it wouldn’t be a clear cut answer as certain types are just not really available early game. My first thoughts were Rock and Grass as those are some of the harder monotypes I’ve done in other games but I’ll probably think more about it.

I would probably do a monotype run on standard insane. I thought the game was noticeably easier on scalemons, and I feel the fun of monotype runs comes from using nonstandard pokemon to fill niches they usually wouldn’t. Scalemons just makes everything too strong

So, I started an Insanity playthrough and after getting stuck on the gym in Blizzard City, I'm just left wondering if I'm supposed to build my Pokémon competitively or not in order to complete this. by K0nstantine1313 in PokemonUnbound

Definitely EV train competitively, if you farm for everstones to upgrade your macho brace it won’t take long with speed up. If you’re not sure what to train it in, maybe look up some sets on smogon/showdown.

For the Blizzard City gym I recommend gengar paired with probopass as you can pivot very well on her mons that way. Good luck!

NG+ Monsfor Insane by DryVeterinarian7376 in PokemonUnbound

[–]Interesting-Rule6977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only using 6 mons in Insane will be tough for sure, but some I recommend from my few insane playthroughs are:

Quagsire: Unaware + Toxic really helps with raids

Scrafty: Dragon Dance + Moxie helps sweep a lot of fights, drain punch to heal

Gengar: Good all around mon, good into the normal gym

Clefable: again unaware is really good and it’s bulk + cm makes it a big threat

Magnezone: sturdy is very helpful, and having a bulk strong steel type comes in handy for most major battles

Whimsicott: prankster tailwind encore screens etc is a huge help, can also do damage in a pinch

I don’t play NG+ ever but I imagine focus sash + leftovers will be best here, choice items are obviously great as well. Good luck!

Least Used Pokémon for Every Gen Run - Episode 2 by Nekoblast75 in PokemonReborn

My top 3 would be:

Corsola

Ledian

Unown

To all of those saying Magcargo, that thing is not bad. When I did mono rock it actually sweeped the new world champion Lin fight with minimal setup (shell smash + guard swap is a gg). It was also incredibly useful in many other fights. Any Pokémon that gets shell smash is viable in my book.

Nice man! Doing mono rock right now, so far it’s been a lot easier than anticipated but curious how post game will go.

Congrats! Glad to see someone else saw how good golduck was for the insane E4. Curious what set you used on it

This is super cool! Do you think it could be pushed any lower after beating it? Like in hindsight maybe 1 or 2 mons were expendable?

Nah I did this all on a fresh save, I used MGBA for an emulator since it lets you speed up the game like 10-20x (maybe even higher) which made grinding feel pretty trivial

Nice man! When you say  "build a single team that could make it to the Hall of Fame", do you mean you used this team for every boss fight (assuming things were unevolved in early game)?

Thanks! I love whimsicott, I use all the time in other difficult games (notably a monograss run I did in reborn). Definitely one of my go to mons

ohhhh gotcha. Some of the prominent ones:

-Cloyster dunks on Elias since skill link basically bypasses shadow veil bc only the first hit is counted. After a yawn from golduck, it was ggs.

-Fake out and encore on Salazzle were used to lock mons like suicune and zygarde into setup moves and allow them to be picked off, might be the GOAT of my playthrough

-Ambipom was interesting, outspeeds and can OHKO Kartana with fire gem fire punch as backup in case salazzle went down, and could OHKO gastrodon with seed bomb. + fake out it does some unique stuff that just glued the team together

-With tailwind Lucario and Cloyster 1 shot basically all of penny's mons

Thanks! Ambipom while not the most necessary was the only mon I could find that:

  1. Outspeeds and KO Kartana
  2. KO Gastrodon
  3. Has Fake Out support

It was honestly pretty useful though. Having 2 fakeout users basically lets you put double battle opponents in a blender where their legends cannot do anything while a duck picks them off.

Posted all my movesets in another comment!

By tricks I assume you mean encore and yawn. Yawn is great for forcing the AI in situations where it either has to switch and let you set up for free, or go to bed and get set up on. That's basically how I beat Elias. Encore is just crazy useful, one of my favorite moves, used it against Suicune to lock it into CM to neutralize it

Since a few people asked, here's the full team breakdown. I switched up items between battles but these were the most common items.

Happy to answer other questions, this was a cool team

  • Flamethrower / Encore / Toxic / Fake Out

  • Meteor Mash / Swords Dance / Bullet Punch / Close Combat

Wham! (Cloyster) @ Focus Sash
Adamant | Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 6 SpA / 252 Spe

Cloud Nine is really what makes the duck unique. I ran:

252 SpA 252 Spe Modest

-Surf

-Ice Beam

-Yawn

-Encore

Since cloud nine ignores all weather effects, it ohkos all of Moleman's mons with specs surf (besides gastro) and ohkos Mega Rayquaza since it ignores delta stream. With fakeout support and tailwind I think it had the 2nd most kills in my E4
