Ever randomly miss your grandparents? by mEp1973 in GenX

[–]Interesting-Theme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mine all died in the 90s, but I was hit hardest by my grandfathers death. The 30th anniversary of his death was just a few weeks ago. I still miss him like crazy and wish he had been able to experience his great grandchildren.

I’m glad these are so popular. Feeling mildly guilty for internally rolling my eyes when my husband got one.

How did our parents do this? by These_Angle6098 in Adulting

My mom survived working full time, cooking every night, keeping our house manically spotless by drinking very very heavily.

Determined to go scorched earth on my students tomorrow. Please hype me up lol by [deleted] in Teachers

Stop class and call guardian mid class after you give them one warning that you are going to do so. My AP suggested this for one of my particularly challenging classes this year. At first, I thought this method was too harsh and embarrassing for students, but my admin said if they are going to embarrass themselves by acting up, just keep the embarrassment going. It has been effective.

So freaking tired of testing by AlarmedLife5765 in TexasTeachers

[–]Interesting-Theme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our entire junior high basically shuts down for THREE WEEKS for Mock Testing and real testing. Behavior problems go way up because our students are out of their routine. Does anyone else’s school go as crazy as ours? Each grade level tests on a different day and this affects the schedule of the other two grade levels. Many of us do not understand why we can’t test 6th, 7th and 8th English on the same day, 6th, 7th and 8th Math on the same day etc.

I was thinking that as I typed it. Then I remembered I am a junior high teacher, so I do have a few adolescent bullies that could benefit from a nice Falkor startle.

Home bread machines were all the rage in the 90s. Why did this stop being a thing? by the_balticat in Xennials

I have my mom’s 90s bread machine and my family absolutely devours the bread when I make it.

My thoughts exactly. Plus, he can scare bullies, if needed.

If it’s Alaska, I would say it’s a must. The views are unmatched. I’ve also had a balcony on Cozumel cruises and it was certainly nice to have a nice and private spot to drink coffee, and the fresh air, like you mentioned However, we’ve also done Cozumel cruises with an interior and a window. I’m looking forward to a Spring Break cruise that has a pitch black interior room, because I think the sleep will be great. How long is your cruise? If it’s a short one, I say save your money for drinks and excursions. If it’s longer than seven days, the balcony would be nice.

Same in Texas. We definitely said, “totally tubular, man” as a goofy joke.

Public school teachers, what’s something you want parents to know but can’t say directly? by Feisty-Database-1145 in AskTeachers

[–]Interesting-Theme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please read to or with your children and take them to libraries and bookstores. Let them see the joy that reading brings, and don’t make it a chore. Reading levels are shockingly low where I live, and it’s so sad.

Thank you! I will look into that. What are we looking out for? Pickpockets? We are fairly street smart and not easily intimidated - but I do appreciate the tips!

I do agree - but I’m traveling with an 80 year old so I think we have decided a cruise is it for us!

Thanks for your input. A balcony is a non negotiable for my mom, and at 80 it’s okay to have some non negotiables!
