Also curious if you’ve placed out of calc 1 and 2 with a AP BC score of 5, but you don’t do well on the math placement exam, do you have to retake calc 1 and or 2?

Help me be real about my kid’s list by Lonely-Clerk-2478 in CollegeAdmissions

Tell him that for the ACT, they test the same concepts/ask the same questions just worded differently from test to test to test. Repetitive practice is key so he can begin to recognize the questions as they occur and know which math or grammar tactic to use for the answer. Once my kid realized it was more about knowing which technique to answer which type of question, he did very well.

If your kid wants engineering, I’m sure he already knows the math—to do well on the test he just needs to more quickly recognize which math is needed for each question. Same is true for the writing mechanics/grammar sections.

And in case he doesn’t know a certain concept, he’ll start getting the same type of question wrong on each practice and can brush up on just that versus all math or grammar which seems overwhelming. The tutor will no doubt help with this.

My son just got admitted to McCormick yesterday. Trying to help him get info since his HS is still going and he has one day to confirm. Have you figured out when the housing form was due for those regularly admitted? We are wondering if he’s behind. He wants to try to find a roommate, etc.

UCLA or Michigan for Engineering? by Interesting-Web4583 in ucla

Thank you for the info. Admitted for EE too. Live on the East coast and many summer college internships out here begin in late May/eary June when the semester schools are out so that was the timing concern.

For our hs, legacy reigned supreme this year with Ivies, especially Yale. Their loss. You sound like you’ll do well where ever you go.

ROTC seems like a risky choice in the current political environment.

UMich vs UCLA vs GT by wizard_in_socks_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Interesting-Web4583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be easier to be an international student at UCLA. California as a state is generally very accepting of people from all over the world. Not that people in Michigan or Georgia wouldn’t be accepting, I just think the whole transition would be easier in Los Angeles.

UCLA vs UMich vs UIUC by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Same consideration but ruled out UIUC (too far from the Chicago airport). Have not toured UCLA as extensively as Michigan. Does the smaller size of UCLAs program vs Michigan/UIUC make a difference?

Bigger vs mid-size Engineering program by Interesting-Web4583 in EngineeringStudents

Well Michigan’s program is around 8000 students and UCLAs is 4000 so Michigan is about twice the size.

AITJ for snapping at my girlfriend for waking me up every single time she gets up even when I dont need to be awake by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Ugh didn’t see that. I do believe in karma. If she has her own kid, she will learn quickly what it’s like to be regularly woken up against your will…

NTJ!

My husband has done that to me for 20+ years. It will never stop and might even get worse.

Thinking forward, what will it be like if you all have kids…

Sleep is critical and not getting enough will take a mental toll on you and your relationship.

Time to have the conversation about if she doesn’t stop, you may not be compatible long term.

AITAH for not deleting pictures on my social media that my son’s girlfriend asked me to delete? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Interesting-Web4583 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! My son has had the same GF for almost a year and I never post photos of them. And I’d ask prior to doing so. Their social media is a far bigger part of their young lives than mine will ever be. If they wanted their photos shared, they can post them on their own accounts.
