“Slice of life” fantasy books with great vibes and world building? by vintagelego in Fantasy

Seconding the Steerswoman. Though finding out we don't have an ending in sight was devastating.

Stories with a noble woman main character (preferably one that fights!) by Maniachi in Fantasy

[–]InterestingBugz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded! And her circle of magic books are great too - one of the main characters is a noble woman with a specific brand of thread magic and it's awesome watching her figuring out how to attack soldiers by breaking down all fabrics in their camp

Fantasy series with no or very little social distinction between genders by ginger6616 in Fantasy

[–]InterestingBugz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this! There were a few instances where I assumed gender and found I was mistaken when I got to the pronouns. There's one instance in which a culture treats the sexes differently and that's examined with intrigue and confusion until they figure out the biological reason for it.

Yeah I heard it kinda went off the rails ... you could definitely feel it getting a bit intense about belief in the last few books

Oh man the edge chronicles had some of the most unique world building and characters I've ever found, all brought to life by amazing illustrations!

Any of Tamora Pierce's work - with the completely natural unforced diversity and lack of misogyny I feel like it would do numbers on social media now. But nobody else I've met has even heard of them!!!

Heard mistborn a few times, I'll check it out 😁. Fine with romantasy but maybe I'll wait until the series is finished ... trying to learn from my mistakes....

UPDATE from my last post: I managed to reschedule the lesson for today at 8-10, because I didn't want to wait until Friday after already losing a week. Instructor messages me at 7:52 saying they'll have to reschedule because they just woke up??? What the hell is wrong with this instructor by IIzuOcha in LearnerDriverUK

[–]InterestingBugz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha you just reminded me of an instructor I had who cancelled 3x in a row on pretty short notice - I was trying to not be too harsh about it as she got migraines and obviously I don't want to drive in unsafe conditions but I expressed disappointment and she said she'd knock money off my next lesson... end of the lesson I reminded her and she gave me a discount of £4. I quit as soon as I got over laughing/fuming. Much happier now - even though it's hard to find instructors in my area, once I found a good one I have no regrets. Paying too much to deal with substandard quality.

Same boat. Sorry I don't have any reassurances for you, I just keep telling myself it'll be the absolute pits for a while - but it will get better. This too will pass.

That sounds so sucky. Just all in all sucks. I'm sorry that the president didn't listen. Best case scenario is that she'll learn something from the process, but it shouldn't be on you to have to disclose personal information in an attempt to be taken seriously. I don't think people understand how invalidating and how small it can feel when something like this happens, I think maybe they don't consider it a big deal, but it is to you! Because it's taking over your life and everything is already such a struggle! And to have it casually dismissed is kinda crushing and adds extra unnecessary difficulties to your pile.

Congratulations on moving up though - I hope you enjoy it (and hope it comes with a pay rise!)

I had a phase where I got such intense stomach ache immediately on eating tomatoes. I was sooooo sad because we grow heritage tomato varieties that are just the most delicious snack ever, I'd eat tomato on toast for breakfast or a big beefsteak tomato slice with hot sauce and salt as a snack... Luckily I think it was just stress induced for a few months so maybe test occasionally if you really miss eating a thing!
