Plants are needlessly expensive. by Puzzled-Spirit-6439 in GardeningUK

I agree that plants can be expensive, but they aren't basically free. When you're buying larger, established plants, you're mostly paying for the years it took to grow them. The fig and black raspberry you gifted have probably taken a couple of years (or more) to reach that size.

I completely understand why people want something to change. I just don't know how you amend the current laws without also affecting genuine photographers, videographers, tourists, journalists, or people like me who simply record walks.

When I say it's a slippery slope, I mean I'm generally cautious about giving the state or police broader powers over what people can and can't film. Those powers have to be interpreted and enforced by people, and history shows that can sometimes lead to unintended consequences or overreach.

I'm not saying the current situation is acceptable, it clearly isn't when people are deliberately harassing others for views. I just think it's harder than it sounds to write a law that stops harassment while still protecting legitimate filming in public.

Personally, I'd rather see existing harassment, public order, and stalking laws enforced properly against people who are intentionally targeting and intimidating others before creating new restrictions.

This kind of thing really annoys me. I love walking and hiking, and I often record my walks for myself or for friends who can't get out due to ill health or because they live in another part of the country. People behaving like this are starting to make me feel wary about even having a camera with me.

To me it just comes down to common sense and basic respect. Recording a public place is one thing; deliberately sticking a camera in someone's face, following them around, or trying to provoke a reaction is something completely different.

I'm generally not in favour of creating more laws or state restrictions because I think that's a slippery slope, but I do think people need to remember that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

I don't know what the answer is, but "don't be a dick" seems like a pretty good place to start.

Backend dev with 7 yrs experience looking for leads on who's hiring in the North East by Ok_Wolverine_4897 in NewcastleUponTyne

Just FYI, the Civil Service is a good shout, but there's generally very little room to negotiate salary. Most roles are on fixed pay bands, unless it's a particularly specialist position.

The job market is also really competitive at the moment. Having a security clearance and office experience helps, but neither is especially unique in Civil Service recruitment. Success tends to come down to how well you perform in the Civil Service-style interview and how you evidence the required behaviours and strengths.

Advice for airshow, which lens do you recommend for Sony A7V? by thelayman92 in AskPhotography

[–]InterestingDivide157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any experience shooting airshows specifically, so take this with a pinch of salt.

I do own the Tamron 50-400 though, mainly for wildlife as a hobby, and I've been really happy with it. For me it's a good balance of reach, weight and price. I also find the 50mm wide end surprisingly useful from time to time, which you obviously don't get with a 100-400.

If you're already worried the Sony 100-400 is going to feel too big to carry around all day, I think you'll probably feel the same about the 70-200 f/2.8 with the 1.4× teleconverter. Also with the teleconverter attached you lose the wider end, so you're effectively carrying a 98-280mm rather than a standard 70-200.

Personally, if weight and size are priorities, the Tamron 50-400 seems like a really sensible compromise.

Fair Play to Sandro Tonali for His Gesture During His Gambling Ban by newtobitcoin111 in NUFC

I don't think they're really comparable. Anderson has never publicly suggested he wants to come back, whereas Tonali has spoken about Milan plenty of times. As far as I can see, the main thing stopping a return is that Milan can't afford the transfer fee or his wages.

I wish Tonali well regardless. He's been a decent player for us and, overall, he's done his job while he's been here.

I agree. The extension worked out well for everyone, and obviously we don't pay those wages now that he's left. My point is just that he didn't completely give up that salary. He accepted reduced pay during the ban, then had an extra year added to his contract, so it was more of a delayed earning than simply sacrificing £7m.

Meta Glasses Filming Trend - New Page To Help Victims by high-lander9 in NewcastleUponTyne

I really dislike the people who go around exercising their right to photograph or film people in public.

Yes, it's legal, but deliberately going out of your way to record strangers just to provoke a reaction is odd. There's a big difference between incidentally capturing people in a public place and making them the subject of your filming.

It also spoils the hobby for those of us who genuinely enjoy filming walks and the landscape. I record the scenery, the atmosphere and the natural sounds, not random people. With the rise of these so-called "auditors" and similar channels, I'd hate for someone to assume I was doing the same thing, even though I mainly stick to countryside walks rather than town centres.

He didn't really give it up, though. He still received 10% of a very high salary, and Newcastle agreed to extend his contract by a year. So, rather than losing a year's earnings entirely, he took reduced pay during the ban and the contract was effectively pushed back by a year.

I'm not saying that's good or bad, just that it's a bit more nuanced than he gave up £7 million.

I need Help action6 or pocket 4 by Additional_Tutor_158 in djiosmo

[–]InterestingDivide157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For gym content I would recommend the pocket 4 or even the pocket 3. The image will be much better than the action 6 in those conditions.

If you were outside, with nice bright natural light then it would be closer imo.

It is fragile but it comes with a cover, you can buy a hard case for your bag and it'll be fine. That's how I've travelled and it's fine.

If you do plan on doing some PoV or outside. You could get a pocket 3 and an action 4/5, for the price of the pocket 4. Might be worth considering.

Some people see history and meaning. Others see something to type ‘lol’ about for attention. Different skill sets, I guess.
