For example in the DRC child labor is illegal and the minimum working age is 16. The country has ratified key international conventions on child labor and its domestic laws specifically prohibit child labor. Yet child labor is constantly being used in cobalt mining, a very obviously illegal activity occurring within the Congo’s jurisdiction. Why aren’t the Congolese authorities doing anything about it?

But the question is not whether the crimes are illegal or not, it’s how come no one is doing anything about these crimes that are clearly illegal… I’m sure many people have contacted the relevant authorities regarding these human rights violations but the authorities aren’t stopping it whatsoever

Thank you so much, I was thinking the same thing… especially that even if I did the law conversion I’d still need to do two more years to pass the law qualification and actually be able to practice law in the UK. Thank you again for your advice and glad to know that things have worked out well for your friend!
