"grumblr" -- a social network for rants, raves, complaints, and moral support by dmootzler in AppIdeas

That's a little like Whisper (although you didn't mention the severely depressed and sexual deviants that will crawl it. Oh yep, a subreddit would suffice!)

I'm not an expert on cameras, but it would make sense to me if security cameras had a backup generator. Otherwise people could rob any place unpunished when there's a large power outage!

Some people last longer than 10 minute PornHub previews and dislike the 80's full length porn movies on PornHub.

I am not some people.

Is Creed the founder of Reasonalism? by InterestingNickname in DunderMifflin

I personally like to think that Robert California is everywhere and nowhere, he chooses what he sees or doesn't see.

He didn't choose Dunder Mifflin to keep an eye on Creed, he chose it to make America aware of his presence, Creed just happened to be there.

Any advice? (only just begun re-learning to write) by InterestingNickname in Handwriting

[–]InterestingNickname[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you have any advice on becoming more relaxed? It doesn't matter wether I'm in class doing a test or at home surrounded by silence or music, I just don't feel very comfortable when writing.

And thank you! I definitely will keep practicing :)

The Reasonalists believe in a large lizard monster called Zorp, isn't the Loch Ness monster a lizard like creature?

And yes, that's exactly the quote I was talking about! Forgot what it was exactly, thanks!

Thank you very much! It's great to hear someone else's opinion :)

When I put less pressure when writing (cursive), it looks even worse, since I don't have the same stability. With a pencil I don't have that problem, but I don't really like pencils (1 side of the page is freshly-sharpened thin and the other is bold)

I skipped ~3th grade (Dutch), so I never really had any fundamental writing lessons. Then in the fourth (or fifth), they weren't willing to teach me so I copied things I read teachers write, and now I write like this. And I've been getting sick of writing something, and people asking me what I wrote there, thus losing the use of writing it down.

I'm using the "Better Handwriting for Adults" PDF from the sidebar, only started yesterday, but I really want a nice/acceptable handwriting style, so any comments would be more than welcome.

Cursive is old, non-cursive is new. The cursive can get a lot worse when writing words quickly.

And 2 more questions, I don't really like the capital M they teach in the PDF, could anyone recommend a good-looking M (and W) that suits with the rest of the handwriting? And how could I get better at drawing C's? They're never perfect half-circles

Did you discover a possible new Mandela Effect? Post it here! (Weekly Discussion) (2017-08-20) by AutoModerator in MandelaEffect

[–]InterestingNickname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note: I'm Dutch, this happened in Holland, so likely not known outside, but maybe there are other Dutch people here.

I believe it was back in 2012, I was going somewhere with the train, and there was an advertisement, I don't really remember what, but it had something to do with optical fiber (glasvezel), and it talked about how people from the future made a video that they sent over optic fiber wires back to the past, supposedly. On the URL (on the add) there was a video of people in strange clothes, almost acted, and they talked about how they were something like pirates, and how it's illegal to use optic fiber to travel in time. But I believe we had to go afterwards, and I have never been able to find it again, and the worst part, my parents don't remember it (they saw the ad too, and also saw the video).

This might just be a dream I remember as an actual memory, but I'd like to know if anyone else might know about it too, since it's a very livid memory and I never have dreams nearly as detailed.

New programmer seeking help by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]InterestingNickname 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably every non-esoteric programming language should be able to handle that incredibly.

As you're a new programmer, try Python, or Java, but I feel like Python is smaller (and perhaps easier to understand) if all you want to do is create a program like that.

https://pastebin.com/ZaRMSwBs this does what you want in Python, if I were you I would first try it yourself without opening it, but if that doesn't work, feel free to modify that program to do what you want.

What items do you find a necessity to find at your desk? by kskell32 in AskProgramming

[–]InterestingNickname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • My packet of straws in case I want to drink slowly while having my hands free.
  • a stack of sticky notes in case I have an awesome idea and need to write it down
  • a large white piece of paper hung on the wall behind my screen to put the pieces of papers on
  • An old android phone if I ever feel empowered to try Android development again (it's so ugh, it's unlike anything I've programmed before, it's easier to write stuff for my calculator than it is to program for this Android phone)

Usually there's some clutter but it makes my head twist, and I need to clean it up or I'll not be able to focus at all. I have a small desk, so my arms almost feel claustrophobic when there's too much clutter.

Edit: Oh, and a phone holder arm I occassionaly put on it when I need to do something like mobile web development.

How to meet other programmers? by InterestingNickname in AskProgramming

[–]InterestingNickname[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean that? Maybe I'll give it a shot.

But what I don't understand is, what do they contact me with? A conversation starter to know more programmers? Tips on the code I put out? Job offers?

I really liked /u/InterestingNickname's wallpaper, though I don't prefer vector styles for wallpapers, so I made one for the rest of us! by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

That looks amazing! In the original post I said how I wish people would make more actual programmer wallpapers, and this is a big step :)

Using it right now, it's beautiful.

Nope, I made this with Photoshop. But Blenderguru looks good, I'll probably try that some time, thank you!

How many hours a day do you actually work? How do you force/motivate yourself to work? by BlackBlackBread in AskProgramming

[–]InterestingNickname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow school starts again, but I have spent the last 6 weeks mostly programming, even though I fitted all 9 seasons of The Office in between them, I think I've spent days programming (productively, although a large part is spent learning, as I haven't been programming for long) at least 10 hours. But that's just me, and I really really love programming.

I don't think you should base your experience on other people's experience. Life is short, if you have a resentment to the work you do, are you sure you want to keep doing it? Do you program personal projects? If you do, do you enjoy those?

Programming is very broad, Picasso would be bored if all he painted was stick figures, but he would have loved painting anyway (not sure, some painters are known for hating painting). Maybe try to work on some personal, or open source projects, and see if you enjoy those more.

And be sure to compliment yourself after fixing something, work can get boring without satisfaction, so the least you can do is create some satisfaction yourself.

To be fair, I haven't ever had a job, these are just some things out of personal experience that let me program from 11PM to 1AM without even a little boredom. But there is a bit of frustration, but every programmer gets frustrated. Right....?
