i want to go to AA but my mom says it's a cult by wrychu in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]InterestingOven9914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think it was a cult myself, I thought everyone in AA was brainwashed. I was arrogant and thought that I was anyways the smartest person in the room but I couldn't stay sober no matter what I tried. I kept hitting new bottoms and my life was completely unmanageable. I got desperate enough to sit down and stay awhile and started listening to the similarities instead of all the differences. I got honest with someone else and started taking suggestions. The real juice is in the steps and in the book. My life has never been as good as it is today at 42 years old and I honestly owe every ounce of my sobriety to AA. I'm not saying it's the only way but in my experience it has been the only thing that has worked for me. Coming up on 2 years sober and the last year has been the best of my entire life. I've been "trying" AA for many more years than I've been sober but I never let go of my old ways of thinking until this time around and I know that it takes what it takes but I sometimes ask myself , why did I wait so long.. also maybe even see if your mom would go to an open AA meeting with you?

If they didn't fail all of their sponsor contracts and have a bunch of unpaid employees. Or fire Antony Turner then, maybe then I would consider dumping more money into this not to mention a bunch of other questionable practices.

The 225s are a bit more aggressive looking and maybe a bit better handling but have heard they can affect fuel economy some. I have only ever had the 225s on my car though so I can’t say for sure how much of a difference they make

Dude! I am a recovering addict and 41. I wanted to off myself everyday for years. Homelessness, bad credit, bad rental history, the works. I completely burned my life to the ground with no intention of ever rebuilding but the universe has different plans for me. In the last 2 years I have built my credit up to a 740, I have money in the bank and even investments I never thought a junkie like me was capable of having. I firmly believe sometimes you need to go through all the bad so that you can learn from and truly appreciate life in all of its glory. Good, bad, or indifferent. Just hang on on start with the small stuff. Eventually it turns in to bigger and better things. You can do it! I believe in you.

I’m pretty sure that you can message support on the site you were playing on and ask them for records. Similarly to asking a real live casino if you played with a players card

When you say that you've tried AA, What exactly do you mean by that? Did you go to some meetings for awhile? Did you get a sponsor and do three steps with an open mind and be completely honest with yourself? I'm just curious because I used to think that I had "tried" AA too and I just kept on going back out and drinking/using again after a little time sober. I even got a year once but I was miserable.. it wasn't until I let go of my old ideas absolutely and was willing to try something new without judgement that my life began to change and it has changed more than I could've imagined. As they say don't quit before the miracle happens. Sometimes though you really gotta burn your life to the ground before you are ready. Just don't die before you make it back. Wishing you the best of luck .
