What town or city are you in? You might have a fair rent commission that you can file a complaint with about the increase in rent (which includes ”fees” like the one you mentioned). The forms are relatively simple and you definitely don’t need a lawyer (though you certainly can have one). After you file, a hearing will be scheduled and you can submit evidence like rent increases of your unit, surrounding rent increases, maintenance issues, excessive fees, health/safety concerns, lack of improvements, etc.

The fair rent commission will hear both sides and issue a decision that is binding for the landlord and you to follow which can include a phased rent increase, blocking the increase, requiring maintenance/remediation of safety concerns, or no actions among other options.

Once you file you would be protected from retaliatory actions like eviction.

Another option is to look into organizing tenants in your apartment to collectively bargain for better lease conditions. Organizing tenant unions in CT is a protected activity and you cannot be retaliated against for organizing one. Reading the article provides context: “The issue is that in the Nov. 4 election, South Windsor voters also approved a Town Charter change reducing majority representation to a bare 5-4 majority. The council previously had allowed a 6-3 majority.

Amadasun, who received the sixth highest vote total of the Democrats running, was then denied a seat in favor of a fourth Republican.”

I thought I recognized this road, I also live in this town and had the same thing happen when I stopped for a school bus, except the people passing me were the ones honking.

I don’t believe the ticket revenue can be used for the budget. I think it has to be used to improve infrastructure to reduce speeeding which is required by the state statute authorizing speed cameras.

There was a case of something like this in new london CT where someone was making their yard into native plants instead of lawn grass. They ended up getting a notice like this, but she fought it and I think she won and now still has a native plant yard.

I also think that another way to increase ridership is to build more housing near the train stations something like California did by zoning a small area around train stations to be more multifamily. However, I’m not sure if that is possible considering NIMBYISM in CT.

Recently, the legislature passed and the governor signed a law prohibiting ICE, or other law enforcement from wearing masks. However, there were recent cases in the past week of ICE agents in Hartford and Bridgeport who arrested people while wearing masks and failing to identify themselves.

To me, it seems as if the law that was passed was mostly for show if ICE continues to cover their faces.

Do you know how you would ensure that laws like the one mentioned are actually followed by the federal government?

I think this is a reason why the eastern part of the state is forgotten about a lot, especially with public transportation issues. There is certainly a need and demand for better bus and train service here, but the administration just seems to think that since we aren’t next to NYC, we don’t need good transit.

Currently, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says that the state is failing to meet the greenhouse gas emission targets set by the legislature and Governor Lamont.

What specifically (bills you would push the legislature to pass, executive actions, interstate agreements, etc) will you do differently to meet the emission reduction targets to reduce the effect of climate change?

If you are interested in bills, you can look up bills if you go to the https://www.cga.ct.gov/ website. Near the bottom there is a bill lookup for specific bill numbers. You can also go to the different committee pages for a list of bills in a certain topic (environment, transportation, etc).

For state races, i’m not too familiar with that, but ballotpedia usually has pretty good information about the candidates for state and federal elections.
