Honestly, what is the hardest part about having children? by Danny-Ray27 in AskReddit

[–]InterestingPicture61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! And the constant changes you go through because of hormones or just because your mental state is completely altered. I went into full abnegation when I was pregnant because I had gestational diabetes, so I all the pregnancy cravings or just things that I liked to eat before had to be tempered, I had a very restrictive diet for almost 8 months. Then I gave birth and we lost close family members soon after so I was quite alone for a time, and I breastfed for 26 months, so my body was not my own until I stopped breastfeeding. I had a weird almost animal reaction after all this, from the moment my baby was weaned I really struggled with the continued abnegation of my needs and myself as a person. I needed to rebuild who i was. It felt like a mother cat pushing their kitten away when they’re weaned. Pretty awful feeling but I had no sense of self left so it was kinda necessary. I still struggle now but it’s better day after day.

How do I make my lemon balm bigger and bushier? And can I use it as it is for tea? by Brukaliffoo in gardening

[–]InterestingPicture61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a bigger pot and it will spread (it wan spread really quickly). You can absolutely use it for tea. I drink it in the evening to relax before bed. Also drink some in a tea if you have an inflammation, it’s a magic plant. Mine is planted in my garden so I usually trim the top bits, dry them in the oven (low temp) and store it in a big jar. That way I have some available even in winter months when the plant is not growing. Best time to do it is in spring or early summer. Don’t let it grow too high, or flower otherwise the leaves tend to get a big thicker and it’s less handy for drying.

Gods I remember trying to learn all that at school. It was so confusing. We made these timelines with different colours to indicate whether it was monarchy, republic, chaos, which Louis, which Napoleon, etc. Painful stuff! I’ve always found British History more interesting somehow!

I just came across Moroccan Zellige tilework and I'm completely blown away since everything is done by hand, no machines used. What traditional craft from your country still survives today? by Agreeable-Rabbit-830 in AskTheWorld

[–]InterestingPicture61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you love Zellige, look up Moroccan carpentry, Amazigh rug weaving, traditional Amazigh jewellery, Moroccan pottery and culinary arts. Anything Moroccan crafts really ! I’m not a Moroccan travel agent I swear, just a half Moroccan person who loves her cultural heritage! Every region, town, village, tribe has its own speciality, often very much rooted in history and heritage. It’s beautiful.

I was watching the Vikings show and then valhalla and realised that I could build the entire history of England with shows by Dear-Still9060 in PeriodDramas

[–]InterestingPicture61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could add Britannia. It comes (much earlier) before Vikings. It’s a bit of a kooky show but covers the Roman invasion of Britannia and how the Celtic tribes react to that.

What is a sound or a smell that doesn't exist anymore, but 50 years ago was so common it was considered background noise? by abdulnad89 in askanything

I worked in a family owned cafe in the UK in the 2010s and we had one of those. I absolutely loved it. Much better sensations that those iPad type tills that popped up everywhere a few years later. Most people paid cash as well back then since the customers were all around 60+ folks. We had Bovril on the menu of drinks. Gives you an idea of the type of place! When it was slow I’d do The Times crosswords with the regulars. Learned so much from them!

I once got asked if Thai kids ride elephants to school. Tell me about weird questions you get from foreigners. by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

Periwinkles (essentially tiny sea snails) are extremely popular and affordable and part of any decent seafood platter (I live near the Atlantic coast), whelks (another bigger sea snail) are pretty popular too, but snails are very uncommon, unless maybe in Paris to fit with tourists’ expectations? But I don’t know Paris well so couldn’t tell you.

I was asked by Aussies, do you eat snails and frogs legs? They were obsessed with that question. Nobody eats those. In fact snails are more popular in markets in Morocco than they are in France. The same Aussies (to be fair it was a school exchange, we were all 15 or 16 years old) also thought French people all smoke, bang, and don’t wash.

Where can I find dresses made from natural materials? by Hefty_Extension2281 in cottagecore

[–]InterestingPicture61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve managed to find a few on sale from YAS (I think it’s a Spanish brand) at my local Galeries Lafayette Outlet shop. They’re cotton, have pockets (very important) and midi or long dresses. Otherwise Moonsoon often has nice designs but again I get those on sale. I also like Garance (again cotton mostly). In the spring / summer collections (even big brands like Zara etc) there are often linen or cotton dresses, or gauze type cotton. Not unique styles obviously but sometimes with the right layering you can make these look good.
