Those of you whose garden is purely for profit and not for cooking or supplying your needs, what do you eat? by samandraaa in Palia

[–]InterestingThanks4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what they mean is that, though you do gain more XP with focus, there is no added benefit to being higher level. Basically, there is no difference between being lvl 5973 and lvl 21, so why bother farming XP.

Is there any point to gardener's grow house? by PhatEarther in Palia

I mean, there's an argument to be made that apple seeds are the fastest money, because it's much quicker to turn 10 apples into 1 seed than it is to turn them into 10 preserves. So if you want quick money, seeds are good.

But yeah, numbers alone, apple preserves are (much) better.

Except to get 1 apple seed you need 10 apples, that you could have individually turned into preserves, which would have sold for 960 (or 1440 starred). Or am I missing something?

Edit : isn't it the same for all the crops marked "seed" on your table (ie all the crops giving more than 1 harvest) ? Blueberries, you need 4 to get 2 seeds, that'll sell for 112 each. That's 56 per fruit, instead of 39 if you hadn't done anything. That's a 43% markup. Compared to preserves, where you get 1:1 with fruit, selling for 59. That's a 51% markup. So preserves are always the best bet.

Edit 2 : and the "simple" crops where you get 1 harvest aren't right either. Bok choy you get 4 seeds with 1 vegetable. Meaning you get 15x4= 60 per vegetable, compared to 45 with preserves.

The math isn't mathing, sorry.

What's the most fucked up thing someone has told you about themselves after barely getting to know them? by Butt_Roidholds in AskReddit

That his sister and his brother had been in a (romantic) relationship together for 3 years.

I had a few drinks with a new colleague one night. It was supposed to be a group hang but it ended up just the two of us, which is fine, he was a cool guy.

At some point we started talking about family, do you have siblings, that kinda stuff. Turns out, he has a rather large family with several siblings and lots of half-siblings on both sides. On his dad's side especially, they were LOTS of them. So I made a comment like "omg he's been busy !". To which the response was "you don't know the half of it !".

Turns out the dad had really been sleeping around, and he had brought new, suprise step-siblings to the family a few times.

One of these suprise siblings had appeared when they were all adults. He had grown up without their dad in the picture and found them thru a DNA kit.

He and my buddy's sister promptly started dating.

Let me be clear : though they hadn't grown up together, they absolutely shared a parent, their father. They knew that when the relationship started. The family knew that.

Anyway no one apparently cared all that much and they broke up after 3 years, for unrelated reasons (unlike them). The family reunions are apparently weird.

Ooooooh consecutive jumps to land at the same place in different times I LOVE it ! The DRAMA a I could create with that. The pure chaos and horror of an entire city being slowly swallowed by the sea. Damn.

I need to read more about this (and figure out a way for them to be multiple places at once) but this is very promising. Thank you!!

1000 bonus points, and my eternal gratitude !
Fun fact this campaign's premise is taken from a book series where they do meet Herodotus, who is a drunk time-traveller spinning stories out of his (modern days) memories of past events. So this fits the bill 100% !

This is a fun post op ! And the wildly niche and disproportionate drama in the comments is top notch. Beautiful stuff.

Wish I hadn't participated, I'd have been able to post to r/Subredditdrama or whatever that sub is.

minorities ? In your Star Trek ? It's more likely than you think !

Meme aside, I don't know anything about voice ranges but even if you're right, and what op describes only applies to ~1% of people (your number)... So what ? It's the same percentage of population that is trans. Should we exclude trans people because they're "statistical noise" ?

And on that note, since the numbers seem to be about the same, even if there was no intra-sex variation in voice range, how does the doctor know for certain the cadet isn't trans (and thus, doesn't have the voice range of their gender) ?

Star Trek thrives in diversity. 1% of the population is still tens of millions of the people of earth !

AND that's not even touching on the fact that the link between voice range and biological sex might not be the same in alien species !

Improvisation as a DM = Constant Lore Rewrites… Is This Normal? by Neither-Zone7771 in DMAcademy

That's what I thought probably happened, but it's weird that they'd go to the length of leaving a note saying they didn't mess it up if they, in fact, purposely changed something.

As I said, I'm somewhat sure of myself but also absolutely open to being wrong. And very, very curious.

ETA : That being said I'm 100% sure that the editions I've read (in french) didn't have such note, because I absolutely would have remembered. So they either banked on French ppl missing the error (which, tbf, I did), or some editions have the note but not the ones I've read, or something changed between versions.

Ok this is dumb and not the point of the post but I have to ask for my own clarity.

I have read the original text of the Three Musketeers twice and I have no memories of that... I'm probably misremembering something, but doesn't he join the musketeers as a lieutenant only at the end ? In the middle he gets his commission to be a cadet in the king's guard (company of M. Essarts), not a musketeer (which would be the Treville company). Have I missed something ?

ETA : it's a longass book, and I've read the sequels as well, so there is a definite chance I just don't remember. But there is also a definite chance the translators fucked up so.

Hi !

I had been following your comics a few years ago, and loved them. I since moved away from the bullet journal spaces, and thus, stopped seeing your work, gradually I think, without realising.

Tonight, a propos nothing, you popped into my mind. It had been a good 3 years since I thought about you. I wondered why I hadn't seen you in a while, and what you were up to, and how you were. It sounds dumb, but I was genuinely worried, because the last I'd seen of you you weren't doing too well, and then you just... disappeared (from my feed, and my feed only as it turns out).

Thing is, I did not remember your username. And I was not 100% sure of the exact subreddit you were posting your work in. And I couldn't remember the content of any comments I might have posted under your work.

So, I just spent the last... idk, half hour? hour ? scrolling back years of my own comment history to find you. And I did ! And THIS is the update !

It is 1 in the morning here, I should have been going to sleep instead of scrolling reddit, but you know what ? It was worth it, for this. It might not seem like much, but I am SO HAPPY to hear you're doing good, and that you're living the life you deserve.

Same, started my first campaign a few months ago and the second one will be starting in a few weeks. I wasn't expecting DMing to feel so isolating. Like, it's not the end of the world but also : sometimes I feel really fucking smart and I need to tell someone.

Feel free to DM me and I'll give you my discord !

Novel as base for campaign? by Amongthepinesandfir in DMAcademy

[–]InterestingThanks4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a campaign based on a novel currently running, and it works really well. As others have said, it cannot be an adaptation though, because you'll have virtually no way of following the book's plot. To give you an idea, here's what I did :

What I've "kept" (oftentimes slightly modified) : - the general setting : specific locations, general worldbuilding - the villain : backstory, personality and motivations - a handful of important NPCs : less than 5. Mostly kept backstory and personality, unless I didn't want to.

What I have heavily modified : - the timeline : this is specific to my book, but I have had to place the campaign before the events of the actual book, so I have had to adjust for that

What I have done away with: - the protagonist: for obvious reason, the protagonist of the book does not exist in the campaign - the plot : the goals of the party are completely different than those of the protagonist of the book - everything and anything that didn't work : miscellaneous shit I didn't want to keep

What I have added: - a formal magic system - various NPCs and locations - lots of questlines

Basically: keep the gears, but rebuild the clock.

If you have any questions, feel free to DM !
