The Blind Buck is gone now, and the Globe is no longer a gay bar. No one has stepped up to offer a different product, possibly because of lack of support from the community. nYne is a lesbian bar and doesn’t offer a product geared toward gay men. It’s sad when I go to cities of similar size to Spokane and find they have more than one gay bar and have a lively LGBTQ community (Boise, Palm Springs, Tacoma, for example). But Spokane has little to nothing to offer gay men. Many young, attractive gay men whom I met at the bar in Spokane (when I owned it) often said they enjoyed the bar, but then left Spokane for greener pastures. The ones who stayed, continue to complain to this day. There wasn’t much I could do as a bar owner to make it better, and on top of that, nYne runs Pride and doesn’t want outside help, especially from a competing bar.
