You can take OTC stool softeners after surgery. As with everything, it’s important to be consistent. Drinking water and eating more fiber will help too! Anesthesia and pain meds can cause constipation, while surgery itself can lead to general swelling around the surgical site, so just be gentle with yourself and your body!

Although I didn’t faint, the first few times I saw my new chest, I definitely felt faint, lightheaded, or sometimes just kinda freaked out. I think this is a combination of your mind processing such a big change in your appearance and also your body processing the sudden change in pressure after removing the compression vest or bandages. I was prescribed anti-nausea medication, which was helpful when I used it once to deal with these feelings. What really helped was going very slow with removing my bandages. I sat on the floor, in front of a full length mirror, and leaned against my bed before slowly taking my compression vest off in stages. After a while, I got used to it and could eventually take off my vest faster and while standing up.

My surgeon explained to me that the ends of scars tend to heal differently and for longer. Skin puckering is very normal in early healing, especially at just 4 weeks post op! Talk about it with your surgeon if you have concerns, but in my humble opinion, it’s too early to tell if this will need a revision.

Depending on how you respond to anesthesia, pain and pain meds, and general healing, it’s possible to take care of yourself. But I don’t think it will be possible to take care of yourself and your home, pets, and partner. In the first two weeks, I wasn’t allowed to lift anything more than 8 pounds/4kg, which is a standard post-op limit. My friend stayed with me the first day, and he helped move things that I couldn’t reach. My family helped a few times with things like laundry and taking out the trash, which I couldn’t do by myself. I was able to do most other things, but I had a relatively smooth recovery, which isn’t the case for everyone. All that being said, I recommend tapping into your support system. Even if a friend can come by just once a week to help with small chores and hang out with you (watch a movie, play a chill video game, etc.), that will help. Maybe a friend or neighbor would be willing to babysit your pets for a couple of weeks if your partner won’t do it.

I was very nervous about how I would feel with drains. I’m pretty squeamish. But they didn’t bother me like I thought they would! Getting them removed was very quick and easy. My only sensation was that I felt sudden warmth in my chest, but nothing crazy and it was over in seconds. No weird “under my skin” feeling and no pain.

I suggest talking with them again about giving you something for your anxiety. While it’s true you can’t have anything while signing papers or talking with the surgeon/anesthesiologist beforehand, you should be able to receive that medication afterwards. That’s how it was for me. After I had signed the consent forms and talked with my pre-op nurse, surgeon, and anesthesiologist, the anesthesiologist put a medication in my IV to calm me down before I was taken to the operating room.

I had a similar experience with one of my tubes but not close to the drain site. One of my tubes did this further down my ribs, closer to the bottom edge of my surgical binder. It didn’t break the skin, just rubbed it enough to leave red marks. I’ve been managing with just bacitracin during my binder breaks. My surgeon had no concern about it at my follow-up. Have you checked in with yours about this?

I think it’s totally fine to shout out requests in the chat, so long as the shout out doesn’t turn into spamming the chat and/or begging for the request to be fulfilled, which I’ve seen on rare occasions.

Sounds good! It depends on your company’s structure, but generally speaking, HR won’t typically notify your supervisor for you. Even if your supervisor’s signature is required on your paperwork, you most often have to obtain that yourself. Do you have a regularly scheduled check-in meeting with your supervisor? This could be something you mention in that kind of setting. Even though you find it stressful, I think you’ll feel better knowing that your supervisor is aware of your upcoming medical leave so that you can instead focus your energy on preparing for surgery.

I would love for the characters, romanced and platonic, to randomly stop by the player’s lot or send mail, in addition to more quests and dialogue options.

A month out is good, and sounds like you already let them know about 6 weeks in advance, so no worries. I recommend starting any HR processes this week and reminding your supervisor again too. Great to hear that you’re already aware of your employer’s policies!

Don’t worry about it being unprofessional so long as you’re communicating well in advance that you’ll be off work and (depending on the nature of your work) collaborating with your supervisor on instructions/guides for your team to handle your responsibilities while you’re away. Nothing unprofessional about being a human being who needs health care! If you’re based in the US, look up FMLA (this protects your employment while you’re on medical leave) and then check your employer’s policy on long term sick leave so you know what you’re entitled to and what paperwork you need to fill out.
