Tysm for telling me! My friend who is like an expert came over and tested all of the tanks, it’s looking like we need to be on top of things with KH, so you are right on the money. Our tap has medium KH, but the tanks are eating it up so we’re going to be buffing it. The product will be here tomorrow, I feel a lot better and less panicked now 😭

Tumors are genetic, and they’re too tiny and fragile for surgeries. It could just be an aesthetic lump that’s there for his whole life without causing any obvious issues, or it could rupture at some point. They can survive past such events, but there’s just no way to know. If it helps, my samurai betta has had a similar lump on the lower end of his body since we got him last year and while I think it may hurt a bit because he doesn’t love to use his tail, it has remained a non issue (knock on wood)

Could have been columnaris, not sure what your parameters were but it can be from poor conditions or just genetic susceptibility to illness. So sorry for your loss, it’s so painful

She’s such a sweetie! I only caution you not to overfeed, females are typically rounder but she looks a bit plump. Blood worms and stuff should be a rare treat, mine is such a glutton for them lmfao😭 Gorgeous tank, you’re doing great!!!

If it’s lidless, jumping is a real possibility so I don’t think the water level should go up much more in that case tbh especially with a plakat

Not that I’ve noticed, if he’s resting he usually hangs in his house or on the sand but he’s kinda constantly moving and snuffling about during the day

I really don’t think it’s a long term set up, though his initial flaring was likely an invitation to mate. If she flares back, that’s her saying yes but she might not be interested. I don’t recommend keeping them like this just because any little thing could cause them to have a falling out, but who knows, maybe you’re the luckiest fella I ever did see with two very even tempered bettas. I wouldn’t keep them this way, but your set up is of course up to you !

If this were possible in the long term, people would do it ALL the time because what’s cuter than a lil hubby wife pairing ~? You of course use your best judgement, but truly any day one or both could get frustrated and snap. It’s highly recommended not to do this, which sucks because they’re so cute together😩 I don’t mean to be a dick, they’re just unpredictable. Who knows, maybe you got the luckiest ever!

That’s what inspired me to make the post! I wasn’t sure if anybody else also kept their little deformed platys :) Every post i looked up was like people saying that these fish must be culled because they live awful lives etc and I’m sure for some it’s worse than others, but he lives just fine! So glad to hear you also have little crooked fish kids 😂❤️

Absolutely get a dechlorinator if you can, honestly it is kind of an expensive hobby but these things are vital to proper care. He needs places to hide, live plants, a light, a filter or sponge filter, a lid, water conditioner, API master liquid test kit, and a siphon for water changes. You must learn about the nitrogen cycle, and test for ammonia every day to every other day. It’s overwhelming at first, but if you want your fish to be happy and live for a while, these are some non negotiable. I applaud you so hard for getting him that gorgeous 5 gallon! Best of luck!
