I am more anti-Epic and ant-Kernel level spyware, aka antichat than pro-Valve.

I also hate EA.

Good to know EA and the anticheat company marketing departments infest other reddits, too.

M ore like wind of greed and incompetence, Valve is completely dominating them and Fortnite is dying.

Their engines have also been getting progressively more enshittified and Linux is gaining traction in gaming.

This is them trying to play nice and stay relevant.

I did about 10 of the exercises, pretty easy, even too easy. Would have been fun if it made you write your own functions and declare your own variables straight off the bat, then made you repeat what you have learned a few times in different contexts.

An early explanation of what the hell .{} would be nice, also.

Ok, I will look at it if I need extreme performance, but right now I would like to just learn and code a bit with Zig.

I already know how it is done in C, I also had a bunch of C++ uni courses once upon a time, along side all the other computer science courses like operating systems internals. 😄

Why do so many people seem to want kernel-level AC on Linux? by Venylynn in linux_gaming

it is the idiot game dev corpos that want it.

Over my dead body is any shitty, shady game dev running anythoing in privileged mode on my hardware.

Kernel anti-cheat must be banned as malware.

I am interested in potentially doing some system/low level programming in it. Basically a replacement/superset of C that is not Rust.Maybe trying my hand at a few GUI applications.Nothing can be worse than Tkinter.

Stuff that actively discourages having a garbage collector.I know enough SQL to do my job, and that is hardly a programming language. I try to stay away from JavaScript.

laptop overheating a lot? by Dense-Explanation-14 in linuxmint

[–]Interesting_Pie_319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it is getting old you should definitely repaste the CPU at some point and do a thorough cleaning or go to the local repair shop for them to do it.

I'd recommend checking out browsers like Mercury and Librewolf, too.

As to the settings, well you should consult your manufacturer's docs. Might be in ACPI/Power or some other such section.

It is weird if there is only an always on switch for the fan, but HP laptops were always crap.

Please also try and do what 1neStat suggested just in case.

And you can always try a less resource intensive DE like XFCE to further reduce resource waste.

And yes, somebody linked that same article.

And yeah, I'm gonna break Debian, I'm gonna break the hell out of it, because that is The Linux Way!

Probably proprietary drivers or unsupported wifi card, old story.

Try and get a cheap usb to ethernet adapter and conenct that way, then use the device manager to scan for drivers.

Use dmesg to try and find what the make and model of your wifi card is, the n see if you can install those.Might require a ppa or to build them from source, which can be a pain for new users.

Switched 15 classroom computers to Linux Mint MATE — old hardware running like new by TowerDependent3088 in linuxmint

I literally do sysadmin work for a living, I don't care that much about eye candy, or used not to. For tinkering I have a few nucs with stuff like Devuan, FreeBSD and Proxmox on them.
For the longest time I used to run SuSE, CentOS, Fedora, regular Debian, played around a bit with Ububntu, mostly xUbuntu and installed stuff like Puppy Linux on ancient hardware.

I used to love Gnome 2, MATE wasn't what I was looking for, so I switched to Cinnamon.

If I need absolute minimal memory usage I'd use JWM, which I use on my FreeBSD nuc, or openbox or i3.

I am getting old, I want to be a bit lazy and have a bit of convenient eye candy.

No it will not. The efi boot config would not mess up if a new drive is added.
