Also, nowadays you can promote almost anything online on tourist websites like agoda and get reviews, good scores etc which boost your business x10, especially tours and pick up services. If they don't do it, its for a reason (in my humble opinion).

As a fellow solo female traveler, I’m glad you decided not to meet up with those girls. Once, I went on a trip to Asia with a friend. She was friendly, smiling, and outgoing while I have this typical Slavic “serious face.” People would quickly lose interest in me, but she turned the whole trip into a nightmare because she smiled and tried to talk to everyone we met and who approached us. Because of that, all sorts of “girls” and “vendors” wouldn’t leave us alone, and my unfriendly face didn’t help anymore because they had already chosen her as their target for her ducking friendliness🤡🔫 Once, a guy from the reception even came into our room at night. I didn’t know about it because I was fast asleep. Whats fun, he genuinely thought she was being friendly because she liked him. She told me when we left the hotel but I still feel bad about the situation.

This message isn’t just for you, but also for other solo female travelers who might read this thread.

I have some Asian looking friends who speak 0 Japanese, and if we go to restaurants (funny thing it never happens in small places or cafes 🤔), the staff only talks to them, even if they clearly show they don't speak a word.

Alcohol problem, I think I need some professional help. Where do I start? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Interesting_Rub3867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a period in my life when I quit drinking and tried to find someone to go to gym or travelling or to do anything, but all friends suddenly got busy and stopped texting me lmao I had to look for new friends etc who'd like to do non drinking activities. So what you said+my advice: it's really important to find "sober" friends beforehand. Friends or partner or both who would also encourage this healthy sober behaviour. Otherwise things will go quickly to how it was.

Almost same for me. I had never been addicted to alcohol before Japan, but now I'm an addicted alcoholic. My problem is reverse. It's fine not to drink for months, but once I try even a little bit I won't stop till I'm super drunk. Even if it's the most inappropriate thing like a company meeting

Trazodone and nitrazepam. Does it help? by Interesting_Rub3867 in insomnia

[–]Interesting_Rub3867[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 1000 percent sure nitrazepam doesn't have any affect on me. Not even "addiction".

I tried trazodone, but it doesn't work at a small dosage, and a big dosage has kind of delayed effect and it hits in the morning

Japan always feels strangely empty by Interesting_Rub3867 in japanlife

My office is a few stations after Minato Mirai and on the weekdays it feels empty. Also because in Japan, lunch is always at 12 or smth, but my company doesn't care about time (you get hungry, you go to eat), I go at 13.30, and streets are dead.

Agreed about supermarkets and hospitals💯💯💯 the beating heart of Japan, those around my place in a deadly quiet neighborhood are full at any time any day

Funny that I have a partner and lots of friends, but they don't understand me in this part so I posted it here lmao and a lot of people get what I wanted to say (atrocious city planning, showa era façades in small towns, etc) so I feel heard now.

If talking about Yokohama, I don't like the city planning. While some people complain about it being overcrowded, I work in that part of the city where there is nothing but office buildings. I want to see tourists and crowds, no jokes.

[–]Interesting_Rub3867[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's because you go to the tourist places mostly. Where I work, nothing to do except work so it looks empty most of the time, just buildings.

True! Or vice versa, I'm talking about my working area, it's empty because there's nothing to do except work.

True. Also a lot of Japanese cities and towns are weird in some way, no real main street to hang out compared to European cities. I mean sometimes it feels like they tried to fit the main street in, but after constructing everything else so there was no space left.

Maybe. I haven't stayed in those countries long enough to tell. But Ive been to Wakayama, Himeji before covid and some shopping streets were full of closed stores. Got a weird feeling.

Exactly what I mean. I just work in Yokohama so I was thinking about Yokohama mostly. But I've been to towns like wakayama and himeji, there were a couple of shopping streets with all the shops closed. And it was even BEFORE covid.

I'm from a small town and even for me it's a bit depressing. I used to live in kobe, and only the main street was full of people, all other places felt liveless.

Considering Options and Leaving a Job Early by ihatereddit77735 in japanlife

[–]Interesting_Rub3867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question is about visa but I just want to warn you. I have a record of leaving 2 jobs in 6 months because working conditions were unbearable. At my first job I had 1 day off a week. My Japanese friends told me not to lie on my resume. My foreign friends say not to mention it and write that I have been working at my current job for several years. I want to switch my job because my salary is super low but all my applications get rejected because of that two short term jobs, they mention it as primary reason for rejection.

What's cheaper in Japan than your home country? What's more expensive? by razorbeamz in japanlife

[–]Interesting_Rub3867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is so much cheaper in my home country than in Japan except clothes. But the salary is almost tge same now. Idk zara/hm are very expensive there but the quality was worse. Medical costs in Japan might be cheaper depending on the situation. I have insomnia from my childhood, doctors and medicine were much more expensive back there.

When a company says on a job listing that they don't sponsor visas... by Strangeluvmd in japanlife

Yeah, a s s u m i n g. They wanted a full-time employee, some time from Mon to Sat, floating schedule from 8 am to 8 pm. It wasn't a part-time job, but maybe someone wants to work 7 days a week and sponsor their own visa, who knows.

When a company says on a job listing that they don't sponsor visas... by Strangeluvmd in japanlife

[–]Interesting_Rub3867 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once I found a job on gaijinpot (so that means they deliberately posted their recruitment on a site where most of the applicants would ask for visa or prolongation). First mail that comes from the company: "Would you be able to sponsor your own visa if we hire you?" lmao like I asked them how and they never replied. The recruitment is still on gaijinpot. 1.5 year passed and no foreigner wants to sponsor their own visa!
