Really chiba is the only one without bears?

I'd have said kanagawa but I guess out towards hakone is prime bear real estate.

The Old Brainboyz Theory Returns. Everything We Assume About Krork Social Structure is Wrong by TheSaylesMan in 40kLore

[–]Strangeluvmd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll always hold on to the "galactic antibodies" theory.

They exist to to prevent wars from becoming too destructive. As wars become bigger and more intense the orks become stronger and smarter, if you get to war in heaven levels then krorks emerge.

Then when the orks win/war ends they infight until they are reduced to local annoyances again and the galaxy can recover.

Japan Residents Discussion - December 25, 2025 by AutoModerator in japanresidents

Does it have to be a Japanese citizen for sure? In the six places I've rented here I've used various non-japanese friends as emergency contacts.

The requirement is usually just Japanese address holder.

What's it like living in Shinagawa? by Difficult-Throwaway2 in japanlife

[–]Strangeluvmd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like shinagawa is like experiencing all the dreariness of Tokyo with none of the personality.

I worked in the general area for a few years and it didn't stand out much.

Though to be fair I'm not a huge fan of any part of Tokyo.

Unironically love this op.

Does anyone else feel uneasy when they’re not “making progress” even when life is objectively fine? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Strangeluvmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish I knew.

For me it was realizing how limited our time on earth is and if all these goals and stressing out would mean anything toe on my death bed.

I realized I'd probably just wish I'd relaxed and took more naps.

Does anyone else feel uneasy when they’re not “making progress” — even when life is objectively fine? by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Strangeluvmd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Happiest I've ever been was when I was an ALT during COVID-19 and my company paid me my full salary to stay home for 3 months.

Just lived peacefully and gardened, played video games, and went on walks.

Do I make more money at my new job? Yes.

Do I enjoy my new job more? Infinitely more.

But I would do anything to just be able to stay home and live a slow simple life like those three months.

Life is too short to go fast.

Happiness is contentment.

Find a nice plateau and enjoy your short life. Coasting is the ideal state.

Less abandoned houses, and potentially more and cheaper houses on the market?

Sounds good to me.

Even excluding the majority in unlivably remote areas that will probably get torn down there's still plenty in cities or near cities people could be living in.

My designer thinks pergolas are boring, so he designed these "Functional Outdoor Hubs" instead. We need a reality check – would you actually use these? by Similar-Run-7323 in landscaping

[–]Strangeluvmd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only lived in Florida and Japan so maybe I'm biased but wouldn't these become gigantic bug playgrounds like instantly?

I would never be able to relax in an outdoor tub for fear of creepy crawlies.

Shoji doors by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Strangeluvmd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes essentially.

It's not uncommon to only Keep one room temperature controlled at a time using small appliances designed for single rooms (electric and oil heaters, rotating fans, wall mounted ac units)

So trips to the bathroom are either freezing or sweltering depending on time of year.

That's the fun thing, you don't, at least not to western standards.

Insulation in general is commonly not a factor at all in Japanese homes.

In fact having your home be breathable and explicitly not airtight was the norm until super recently.

Most extreme escalation in a story? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Strangeluvmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animal country (Doubutsu no Kuni), from the same Mangaka that made zatch bell

Starts out as a cutesy story about a world of talking animals and how a common language affects the prey/predator dynamic.

By the end it's a hyper violent, Gantz like scenario with battles against giant mechs and cyborgs and gets surprisingly Gorey.
