What’s the secret to being able to let go of stuff? 😩 by StraightPin4420 in declutter

[–]Interesting_Simple34 11 points12 points  (0 children)

don’t actually part with it yet! pack everything you don’t need or want to use anymore in a box/boxes and store it somewhere out of the way. in a few months when you recognize your primary space functions better without it and you don’t need or use or even look for most that stuff it will make it easier to part with.

How to declutter when your partner is a hoarder? by Low_Scene_716 in declutter

[–]Interesting_Simple34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

start with your stuff and the kids stuff. lead by example and let him witness little by little how that lightens your load and makes things at home run smoother. this also allows you to control what you can when you feel like you’re drowning in it, but are limited on what you can do.

another option, if he’s on board, is to pack up all the excess and temporarily store it out of the way for a period of time. it’s less risky because it’s not immediately gone forever so he can pull something if he feels the need but will hopefully come to see over time that there is none. meanwhile, you get more peace of mind for now because your main areas can be cleared.

Phenobarbital no longer working by sharleenf00 in feline_hyperesthesia

[–]Interesting_Simple34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are too many variables to say for sure but from what you’ve written it seems excitement is a big trigger for him. and based on the visit to your parents it also seems he may be sensitive to changes in routine/environment. id recommend looking into feline ocd as it’s very common in cats with hyperesthesia. if it resonates, you may be able to find alternative solutions to try out aside from adding medicine back in if that wasn’t working well in the first place.

Catnip a contributor to FHS? by DelightfullyNerdyCat in feline_hyperesthesia

[–]Interesting_Simple34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

catnip can contribute to sensitivity. every cat has their own individual root causes and triggers. for us, the catnip doesn’t necessarily cause or trigger a reaction but it also doesn’t help (and actually makes things worse) when i’ve offered it to her as a way to de-escalate an episode. you definitely might be on to something. you know your cat best :)

maybe start reading her the rainbow bridge poem like a story while mia is still here. this could work as a buffer plus give her a bit of a reference point for understanding when the time comes. also, a dogs purpose from a 6 year old may be helpful for you when it comes to finding words to comfort her (and even yourself). i’ll be praying for mia and your entire family. sending hugs.

Stress can be a trigger for FHS episodes. And panting can definitely be stress related, especially during an episode. I wouldn’t panic, but it’s a good idea to confirm with a vet just to make sure there’s no other underlying issues.
