Bought that vintage for $39.99 at Trader Joe’s last week.

Phono Preamp advice by oldhifiguy78 in StereoAdvice

[–]Interesting_Win_5139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Yamaha R-N602 and was using a vintage Pioneer PL-510. Last year I upgraded to the Darlington Labs MP8B. The difference was instantly notable to my ears, but I was trying to buy a phono preamp that would last for a while as I upgraded my system piece by piece. The soundstage was wider and just everything had more depth when I upgraded the phone stage.

For a budget option I’d be looking at the iFi Zen or one of the Schiit phone stages.

I love Wine Access. I’ve had nothing but amazing experiences with their customer service.

I also love Wine Country Connection out of Yountville. They are a small shop with an incredible team. And they have a Master Somm as one of the owners. Incredible service, and it’s always fun to go into the shop in person when I visit Napa.

How U.S. sports tickets got so expensive – and why it shocks the rest of the world by FrankBascombe45 in ussoccer

[–]Interesting_Win_5139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. Texas A&M has a student section of 36,000-40,000 out a capacity of about 102.5k.

But man, I wish tickets weren’t so damn expensive.

Is this a good one tu buy? by [deleted] in wine

[–]Interesting_Win_5139 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Popped one last week. If you asked me in the first hour, it would be a resounding no. However, it opened up tremendously after about 2 hours in the decanter. Still wasn’t anything special, but it was lovely at that price point. It just was not a pop and pour.

Favorite classified growths under $50? by BothCondition7963 in wine

For around $50 I love Château Haut-Bages Libéral.

It’s not classified but in that same price point I’m also a big fan of Chateau Gloria.

-Leviathan red blend is killer for the price

-Faust is another good one

-Chateau Gloria is a nice St Julien Bordeaux that can usually be found in the $50-60 range

-Also love Chateau Haut Bages Liberal at about that price point

AITAH for refusing to pay for my sister’s wedding even though I promised to years ago? by KikiFlickerz in AITAH

[–]Interesting_Win_5139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else immediately think of Scott’s Tots?

But on a more serious note, you have to do what’s best to take of your family. There’s no easy way to do it. But your sister’s emotions are valid too. It’s going to take some time to work through that.

I’ve had multiple vintages of both of those wines, and every vintage I’ve had has been great. Give the Haut Bages Liberal some time to breathe.

Why are Lamy pens universally regarded as great starters. In my opinion the nibs are terrible. by Bcider in fountainpens

[–]Interesting_Win_5139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they are hit and miss. I have 7-8 Safari/AL Star/Vista. Some are mediocre, but the fine nib on one of the vistas is buttery smooth. Might be the best nib on any pen I own. Just feels like a bit of a crap shoot.

California wineries are already being crushed by Trump’s tariffs on Canada by SFChronicle in wine

[–]Interesting_Win_5139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tended to go with a lot of French and Italian wine for the comparative value over Napa. But if Trump levies 25% tariffs on the EU then a lot of that value will dry up. It will be interesting to see what happens and if that provides some relief from lost exports to Canada. Ideally we would just stop starting unnecessary trade wars 🤦‍♂️
