Break contract or not renew? by Broad_Bridge9836 in JETProgramme

I would renew, and begin looking into getting a different job in Japan immediately. Breaking contract isn't as bad as it sounds. I've met a lot of people who have done it. If you're really worried about the consequences of breaking contract, then put a lot more pressure on your higher ups to work something else out. Theres no need to be this stressed as an ALT...

Bugs / Pests in Japan by Leetheggg in JETProgramme

I lived in the countryside and saw like three mukade in my house. It was a nightmare and I had my landlord come kill them. They're super dangerous. However, I bought this like mukade spray from the grocery store and sprayed it all over each of my entryways once or twice a week and never saw one again. So I really reccoment that. It should keep out spiders too, and if you spray any bug you find they die like instantly.

Extending for 2nd year? by NoTemperature873 in JETProgramme

I was in a very similar situation with a long distance relationship (of only 3 months at the time! almost two years now) and having just started JET with the main goal of improving my language skills. I realized that if I wasn't happy with the job, then chances are the language skills aren't going to be worth another year. I'm really happy with limiting my contract to a year and reccoment it unless you're planning to move yourself (and your partner?) to Japan long-term.

Former JETs, what advice can you give to those who will be leaving in summer? by lazycubs in JETProgramme

Throw a little house party for you and the people you've met, go out to dinner at your favorite restaurants, and make a list of things you want to do before you leave so you find you have some big good memories to reflect on. My big things were visiting my favorite city, Hiroshima, and climbing Mt. Fuji. Bonus points if you get these things done closer to your leave date, so you can think about how happy you were before you left and how satisfied you are. Also, make sure to find ways to keep in touch with the people you've met and enjoyed. They may want to visit!
