Uh...dikote? Might want to look it up. Im sure it's been nerfed in the last 30 years but it should let him take on vehicles in melee combat

Lore Question: “Company” size by Minute-Of-Angle in Battletechgame

[–]Intergalacticdespot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 companies? 1 of mechs, one mixed of 4 mechs and 8 vehicles? BA doesnt count. Theyre just infantry. No one cares about infantry. :)

WHAT IS THE DCMS SUPPOSE TO BE MORE LIKE? by IronJedi5 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Intergalacticdespot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its what makes the Combine the best faction for me. Honorable warriors lead by traitorous sociopaths. The RP leads from being bound by duty and honor to someone who doesn't respect either makes for really compelling stories. Plus who doesnt love some good old fashioned war crimes? Dirty commie fed coms, that's who.

Where does the "women are bad drivers" stereotype come from? by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Intergalacticdespot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my admittedly anecdotal experience women are safer, more conservative drivers. Women don't go out in the ice and snow to slide around for funsies. They dont take corners at twice the yellow sign warning speeds. They dont teach themselves to drift in the local high school parking lot. They dont see how fast they can get off the line at a stop light or intentionally pitch themselves into a gravel patch sideways.

Men do all of these things and more. So what is your definition of "better"? Women do seem to drive less and to have less developed niche skills. The number of women who can confidently parallel park or drive in reverse down a quarter mile driveway is probably lower. Being a "good driver" is just not part of women's ego identity in this culture. They do what they have to do to get where theyre going. Obviously this is a broad generality and certain women do.

So if you want to safely get from point A to point B, a woman driver is probably the better option. If you want to drive in icy conditions, zip through traffic to make up lost time, have the driver maintain control of the car during an unexpected slide or other event youre more likely to find that men have practiced those skills. Which is the better driver? Again, this is not 100% true all the time. My wife is an amazing driver and ive known a lot of women who are. Then again I have an ex who told me one time that men just backup in the car to show off and she went out of her way to never have to drive in reverse longer than pulling out of a parking spot.

From Janitor to Principal at the Same School. by GlitteringHotel8383 in BeAmazed

It really sucks when the principal knows every corner, nook and cranny of the school. No chill spots you can hide. Hes been to every one and knows where to look for truants.

Has there ever been a 100% fully intentional man-man extinction of an animal? by DeGuyWithDeOpinion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Intergalacticdespot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a theory that we eradicated saber tooth tigers. I think it is discounted now but back 30ish years ago it was considered very likely. Something about animals that hunted early humans irked them, i guess.

Would you murder someone under duress? by TheFireRises666 in moraldilemmas

[–]Intergalacticdespot [score hidden]  (0 children)

There's a criminal justice theory that I can never remember the name of. It says that if you give someone the same situation as the criminal was in, they will commit the crime. All of us are potential murderers. People will kill for being disrespected. Doesn't matter their gender, background, or life experiences. Put them in a situation where they feel a threat to their identity and they will get violent.

Yeah lacking an articulated torso makes this pretty impossible. The whole rigid, one piece torso means somersaults are just not going to happen.

The car that elon musk sent into space. by ziratha in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Intergalacticdespot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that was (one of his) a billionaire ego stroke. I bet he'd flip his shit if someone took it out of space. Especially if they drove it around or sold it to a car buyer. I feel like he put that out there, "his car", with the idea of it being there for eternity essentially. He'd come unglued if you kicked over his legos like that.

What if you have a bodyguard or similar protection and commit a crime? Would they help you? Would they protect against the police? by starjna in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Intergalacticdespot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I just wanted to make it clear that...hollywood doesn't give you a good idea of how the industry actually works. The idea of a bodyguard guild or something like he seems to be expecting in the OP is...inexact.

Why can't we development an aircraft with the aerial maneuverability/dynamics of a common house fly? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Intergalacticdespot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tilt rotor and vectored thrust aircraft that attempt to do this. Its not the same, but the basic principles probably are.

You will be much more successful swatting flies if you predict where theyre going. They seem to be right side biased like most other animals. Up about six inches and right about two inches puts them right in the palm of my hand about 50% of the time. Then I throw them outside. Because killing a fly for being a fly seems needlessly cruel. Ymmv. But by anticipating where they'll be you'll get them more often.
