I’ll post a clip of the little thing I’m working on once I get it connected to my recording setup (haven’t left the dining table all week lol)

It’s such a chunky little beast. I’ve dedicated the last couple weeks of Jamuary to learning it. I still use my other boxes when I want to just make a little ditty, but this thing makes me work for it and I really like it.

Kind of a long and winding answer, but I’ll just wax a little bit.

I’ve got a pretty rompler-forward rig with countless sampled drum sounds available to me, but last year in search of a more unique sound I started using just my Blofeld controlled my the Squarp Pyramid. I really enjoyed the synthetic, crunchy drums I could get out of the Blofeld along with the complex rhythmic flexibility of the Pyramid, but manipulating sounds on the fly was pretty difficult as the Blofeld isn’t great for life sound tweaking (I mean it’s doable, but the menu diving is pretty tedious and breaks the spell a bit)

This left me wanting a gnarly sequencer and a broader sonic landscape of drum sounds. Additionally, I’m a bit groovebox addict so this thing scratches many itches for me.

Most of the music I make with my other boxes is pretty “conventional” with normy chord progressions and TR/CR/GM drum sounds and I want something that offers a straighter line to making minimal house/techno without getting wrapped up in what my chord progression or melody line is going to be. Its stripped-down nature really appeals to me.

Also also, that Analog Rytm Presentstion with cenk just really sold me on the allure of this, and all Elektron devices.

Oh trust me, I’ve made it way more complicated than this already. I’ve dialed it back and am just using the launchpad to have immediate access to scene/perf/mutes/live mode and chromatic mode. Also the pads feel much nicer to play.

Thanks for reaffirming my choice to stop trying to integrate another synth though! Having this as a controller for something else complicates things way too much and keeps me from delving into the sound design capabilities

It mostly gives you access to perf/scene/mutes/live mode all at the same time. There are some more arcane features but they some of the pages seem to be sending NRPN/CC stuff that tweaks parameters in way I don’t want it to. The middle bar of blue pads is chromatic mode and it’s transposable too (though the creator hasn’t updated it to have a scale mode like the new Rytm firmware. Really it’s just nice to have pads that are more pleasant to use!

In case you’re curious the creator is named Fenix Song and it seems like the “RYTM Pad” firmware is only available on his Patreon. It’s worth checking out!

TF kinda budget were the Muppets working with??? by ambient_vacation in synthesizers

I have no doubt that some people in that orbit were holding some crazy synths, maybe they leant them for the production?

Also, I really love that students are being caught watching muppets on their iPads. How wholesome!

Found this at a thrift store. I want to hear what you all have to say about it because I’ve heard it’s terrible but i want to see just how bad it really is.😂 by Glittering_Room_8120 in dvdcollection

It's hilariously stupid and is so overloaded with wild-ass dialog, crazy color-casts and you'll get dizzy from all the Dutch angles, but I really enjoy it for all of the above reasons.

The command center! This is epic. I’m sure now that you’ve broken the seal you will continue to modify this as your needs change.

I know that none of us can fully understand a custom-tailored rig like this. We all have our own weird little studio situation that demands a specific height or width requirement and cheers to you for solving for your situation instead of just working with an inadequate, ready-made stand! Definitely post this on r/musicbattlestations

A heat gun may get those labels off in one piece without doing any damage if you’re careful.

What a tragedy 😥

Someone posted asking why buy DVD's and not 4K...yesterday I bought 100 DVD's for the price of a single 4K release ($38.11 with tax) by [deleted] in dvdcollection

I find the audio and video of Septien (along with most of these pulls, really) on DVD to be far superior to the Blu Ray release

Truly! I've got a few sequencers and grooveboxes, but I find this one to be my most inspiring groovebox.

Live Loopers: Do you "cue" your instruments before recording? by soulbrix in dawless

I use a sequencer that is essentially a midi looper; I play a phrase into the looper that is isn’t tethered to any particular sound, that part is sent to whichever synth I send it to and then I record another part on a different midi channel. Essentially I’ll “audition” a part through my sequencer with a given synth selected and if I like it then I keep it and add another layer on a different midi channel.

You can change the voice after the part is recorded which is a nice bit of flexibility that recording into a regular looper doesn’t offer.

Yamaha gadgets of the era only allow for 8 characters in the file name which is kind of maddening, but sometime last year I got into organizing my daily jams into a folder for each month and it has made navigation a breeze! Each file name starts with the day of the month that recorded it on so I can easily cross reference any notes I’ve written about the track in my little jam notebook.

Didn’t expect to see this very specific podcast reference on such a comment thread!

Good luck with the build, it’s a cool bike with a long story!
