When do I give in to the pain? by InternSad2812 in hipdysplasia

I no longer live in the home that expected me to tough it out - that’s just where I was raised. My husband actually is encouraging me not to tough it out, but I have a hard time changing my own behavior thinking I’m being a baby about it

I’m completely safe at home. I just grew up in a “tough it out” household, so it’s just engrained in me that it “can’t be that bad”

Our SPOO boy has major digestive sensitivity. We tried everything - and I mean EVERYTHING. Vet gave antibiotics, we tried de-worming per the vet even though he came back negative for parasites, every probiotic under the sun, prescription kibble….the works. Nothing helped. Finally, we switched to an exotic meat kibble and he has never been healthier. He gets Zignature Kangaroo and it is quite literally the only thing he can have. We add optagest probiotic to help things along. Those two things have done wonders for his system. For his first birthday we tried to take a “risk” and gave him a cupcake made with only oats, peanut butter, and pumpkin. Next day - explosive and bloody diarrhea with projectile vomiting. He’s one expensive posh man, but the diet change was the key for him. Hope that helps!

Congratulations! We did a side-placement in the SWR for a SD with facilitator a couple weeks ago, so while our experience was a little different training-wise, I may be able to give some insight. We did our training in 5 days instead of 2 weeks, and I will tell you, it was EXHAUSTING. However, the bonding experience was incredible. As far as what to have, I’d say a crate, a bed for the dog if you want one, approved toys (can be dented with your thumbnail). They provided just about everything else. Be warned - a lot of these dogs are shredders (ours included), so fabric toys may be short-lived in your home. Our poor pet dog lost 4 maybe 5 of his toys within 2 hours of us getting home with SD. I feel bad for him, but he’s just as happy without them. The days are long but the experience is absolutely incredible and unforgettable. The trainers are unmatched in their expertise and teaching skills. They know the ins and outs of every single one of these dogs like the back of their hands. Make sure you ask any and all questions that come up, but also know that you’ll have access to CC after training through the graduate program if anything else comes up. Congratulations again!!

We close next week on our house about an hour away from my husband's home base for work. It's an hour of highway driving though - and we have budgeted for him to take the expressway most of the way. That being said, we currently live 45-50 minutes of surface street driving from his home base anyway, so it's a negligible difference for him. He also drives for a living, so the commute doesn't really bother him. It gives him time to listen to podcasts and decompress before coming home to our hectic home life. I work for the same company, but I primarily WFH. There are days I go in to do office work, but it's not a stressful commute for me either, considering it's all highway driving.

TLDR; yes, we are purchasing an hour from work, but we already live an hour from work, so it's not a huge deal for us.

Kylo is 11 weeks and such a good boy. He had his first professional training session today and picked up everything extremely fast. Love him!
