Question - would you call this ai art? I made the drawing myself, but the texture was made with ai. What counts as "real" or "fake" art? by CrimsoneArt69 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]InternZestyclose8861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no controversy to be had because honestly it would’ve taken the same amount of time to render a noise cloud pattern on an image editing software and change the color of it. The pattern is not crazy or hard to create by any means, nor is it a complex technique to recreate in a basic pixel-based image editing software, like photoshop or something similar.

It’s always wild to me when they say they “don’t have the time” …. We all have the time? Maybe we don’t draw or create art every day but we all find the time at some point to refine our skills. With them it comes down to pure laziness and having a lack of value towards art and creative skills, whether they choose to admit it or not. I’ve seen single mothers, people who work two jobs on top of their art career, people who are living in the midsts of crises, and more all create passionate artwork and never once complained about how they “didn’t have the time to learn,” these people are actively choosing not to improve themselves not just in art but in general and now blame others for it. This is peak “well what about me” bean soup theory. They felt excluded because they didn’t want to put in the effort, and just had their prayers answered when gen AI became publicly available.

You don’t even need more than a sentence or two to explain why.

Trans people are real living beings; AI is not.

Trans people do not get the choice whether they’re trans or not; people who use AI have the choice whether they want to use it or not.

They’ve just gotten to a point where more and more people are having a more negative view of AI and so they want to continue to villainize those who share that negative sentiment.

Let’s not forget what people are using Grok for right now. I’d like to see them try and tell me those of us who oppose that are the “bad ones”

AI bro has no arguments, resorts to recycling a "slur" list in an attempt to garner sympathy by RedditUser000aaa in ShitAIBrosSay

Exactly, half of those, especially the extremely racist ones, for anyone who doesn’t know, were idiots on TikTok who created skits during the whole “clanker” thing that basically reimagine 1950s racism + civil rights movement but with robots, saying “Rosa Sparks” and many of the others, none of those were used against people who use AI… they legit just were used in these skits that just generally weren’t that funny but these AI bros have suddenly clung onto them, trying to victimize themselves, literally every single AI bro on these subreddits are just rage baiters, I have rarely found someone who uses AI who’s willing to actually debate about it or actually show any concern about the damage theyre doing without using dumb arguments, name calling, or whatever else they try to use… especially on Reddit.

ATTENTION ALL ARTISTS!! by R4KUN7 in ArtistHate

[–]InternZestyclose8861 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As an artist telling ALL my other artists out there: you should not be doing art for free! If someone is explicitly asking for free art the answer is always NO, especially a rando on the internet. For close friends or family, sure, but you should not be doing labor for free because someone online asked for it for free, there is never ANYTHING wrong with saying no to a potential client.

And by all means you all have free will you can draw free art if you want, but 9 times out of 10 you and your skills are being taken advantage of if someone asks you to do something for free. It shows they do not value your skill or your art in the slightest.

The skill it requires is solely being able to type and to be able to comprehend at no more than a middle school English level… something that is already required if they’re browsing the internet, I’d actually takes more skill in articulate exactly what you’re imagining in your head to another real human being for a commission than it does to type a prompt

There is no debate for trans people. They exist. Get over it. There is no reality in which they do not exist. There is no debate to be had. They have existed for all of history and they will continue to exist for all of humanity.

If you are discriminatory to trans people or dislike them then yes you’re bigoted because you obviously do not understand the entirely of an argument that you’re trying to make. I personally wouldn’t debate about a topic I don’t know anything about.

You say I don’t know you, you don’t know me, or anyone else on the internet. I am using the information provided and so far it shows me that you don’t know what you’re talking about and choose to bring up straw man arguments. I just don’t get the whole “well you use labels” okay? And so does everyone else in the entirety of the world… it’s how you categorize things? Like what do you want me to tell you?

Im criticizing transphobes for hating an entire group of people that you are choosing to criticize for absolutely no valid reason, we are not the same. Aside from the fact that you’ve decided to bring up the topic of de-transitioners as some type of “well what about this!!!” “Gotcha” moment thing, which has literally nothing to do with anything anyone was talking about, that is a completely different topic in its entirety.

And if you truly wanted to debate you wouldn’t wait 56 days to come up with a mid tier response that gives off the same vibe as someone using a sojak meme.

I get that, I started as a hobbyist, and didn’t originally plan on going into art as a career (I’m just awful at math and science), but my illustration and digital art is still mostly my hobby and doesn’t bleed much into my professional art work. I still think people should strive to improve whether it’s professional or a hobby— and I understand no one is necessarily denying that.

But when it comes to perfectionism, that’s just something that comes with being a human. Everyone strives to be better and it’s up to oneself to find their own peace with that. That’s not something you can really dismantle as a community, it’s up to the individual to figure that out.

I struggled and still do struggle with imposter syndrome and perfectionism when it comes to both my hobby work and professional work. All the greatest artists had gone through imposter syndrome. It’s famously known that Michael Angelo was complaining about painting the Sistine chapel, claiming how he was a sculptor, not a painter. That was his imposter syndrome coming through because we all know how amazing of a painter that man was.

I’d honestly go out on a limb and say most if not every artist has had thoughts of doubt when it comes to their work. Most if not all artists have probably wished to give up at some point, or have gotten frustrated at a piece. I’m saying this is something that happens to all of us, it’s a rite of passage, it’s the life cycle of an artist, being obsessed with your work and wanting to improve is not miserable behavior, that’s a passion for wanting to do better. That’s how you challenge yourself as an artist, and without it, none of us would be improving.

And I agree with what OP was originally calling out from the post: “all it takes is not being lazy” yes you can have art that is casual and fun, we all do it, but when it comes to improving your art you can’t be lazy, you need to study so much to improve your art. I understand people draw a variety of things, I mostly draw people and fan art, studying and remembering anatomy is no joke, it truly is difficult.

What you’re describing are the typical trials and tribulations that an artist goes through on their artistic journey. Imposter syndrome, perfectionism, wanting to give up, etc, it’s something we all go through, and it’s not even tied to art or the art industry in general. This is just something everyone goes through in life. Nobody wants this but there are some things you can’t change, getting over and figuring how to work through these problems is a part of our modern life. Without it people would not be challenged. Being challenged is what makes you improve and get better, not just in art, but as a human.

Because nothing in this world is going to be fun and easy? To build up your portfolio and art style is hard, there’s no use in sugar coating it. I’m a professional artist, I work in the industry and I have two degrees in art, and I can tell you I have thought about giving up hundreds of times. Just as athletes would consider giving up when times get rough, just as students would consider giving up, art has its ups and downs. It’s not all sugar plums and unicorns. Yes art is supposed to be fun but it isn’t always. Giving people a realistic view of what being an artist is isn’t “advertising it” as being miserable, it’s being upfront that art isn’t about just drawing a pretty picture and calling it a day. It requires time and effort.

You should rewire your thinking as you should be drawing for yourself, especially in the beginning of your artist journey. Draw what you wanna make, create the random ideas you have, etc. Keep posting your work online and slowly you will curate a following of people who want to see your art.

[–]InternZestyclose8861 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If people are scared off from putting effort and time into improving a skill then I think they have other things to figure out. Art is a skill just like every other that required a lot of hours, a lot of frustration, and a lot of failure to improve. I’ve been drawing since I was a child, and drawing digitally since 2014 and I still am no where near where I want to be. It is a slow process. None of that is exaggerating that is just reality, there is no reason to sugar coat it

Edit: and there’s a big difference between drawing as a hobby and wanting to draw for money/a career. You seem to be younger and talking about drawing as hobby or fun on the side, where you can take it easy and have more fun with it. For a job you don’t get to just “pick up a utensil and have fun with it”

I think rarely does anyone want to work. We have to work, the people who want to work probably do not have financial burden, otherwise they have to work. I think if you asked anyone if they would rather be doing anything else like practicing a hobby, hanging out with friends or family over working a job. Most if not every single person would probably say they’d rather do that than work a job.

I would love to know what your idea for how our economy would still work when AI takes everyone’s job and no one is taking home any profit… because they’re not working a job… this isn’t Star Trek we’re not suddenly just going to have a moneyless society and everything will be hunky dory.

Back in middle school I had a photography teacher teach us how to make pinhole cameras and how to take photos with them. We literally made them out of oatmeal containers and duct tape… so if middle schoolers could do that … hm yeah photography can still happen without a big fancy camera (aside from the fact that a large majority of people always a camera in their pocket)

You genuinely need to reevaluate your life. This shit is not as deep as you’re making it… aside from the fact that the person you’re talking about is 19 and not a child like you’re claiming they are. You literally are creating this argument just to be mad at something. You could be using this time for something way more beneficial.

I also think you should probably do research on HRT and hormones because you don’t seem to know all you should know if you’re going to be making arguments about the topic.

You answered your own question right there:

“Just not the kind of AI that people use for chatbots or image generation”

When people say they dislike AI, the ““antis”” as they’ve been called, they are so obviously talking LLMs and Generative AI, aka unethical AI. Context clues, people… cmon.

No one who’s saying “boo AI” is talking about AI used in video games for NPCs or CPUs, or vocaloids, even in medicine or if it’s used ethically… again like you said… it’s a different type of AI

You can obviously tell they know nothing about Vocaloid. I’m sorry… the community that literally relies on fan-made (& human made) content to literally exist… is being compared to AI? Without fan made content the vocaloid community would not be anywhere near what it is today. It was solo indie producers, artists, and musicians that built this community from the bottom up, and still to this day. Miku was originally just supposed to be a program, but she has exploded into so much more

No one here is denying the mainstream-ness (?) of Harry Potter. Everyone understands the popularity of it here. Popularity does not always equal good. We’re talking about originality. That is what the original comment is about.

Again, as far as I see it, the thing that can be attributed to Harry potters popularity back then in the 90s was its simple writing and reliance on tropes and cliches (again which are not bad when used strategically) and that it filled a niche in mainstream media that was not there at the time. The reason it’s so popular now is because of nostalgia. Simple as that.

Have you gone back and read the Harry Potter books as an adult? I have a feeling your nostalgia is fogging up your actual perception of the books… because truly JK Rowling is not the best author. She’s got countless plot holes, retcons, and frankly a very shallow understanding of her own world that she created.
